I think it's all my fault. Just got a new phone and got a Semble SIM and loaded the Snapper App onto it on Thursday.
Next day they kill the product.
Typical...... :)

No loss I'm afraid. Its biggest problem was still the lack of retailers who had paywave. I went to three shops this week and none of them had Paywave - not even the brand new Mitre 10 Mega just down the road. So I always had to carry my plastic card with me.

However what I have found really useful is BeepNGo. Got my Loyalty cards, drivers licence and Library card loaded onto it. Thats an App that is getting a lot more use. While Sempbe couldn't get used at Mitre10 my Flybys on BeepnGo did.

My real world wallet now only has two cards in it: Credit and money machine. The rest are on my phone.

Wait, are you allowed to have your driver's licence loaded on as a virtual card on your phone??

Don't believe so. I got my hopes up when NZTA or someone announced a review of driver licencing, with a view to bring it into the digital age, but it is only aimed at the application stage

I've just returned from a Mitre 10 Mega where I received a diatribe against paywave when I went into autopilot and tried to wave the card over the reader. The usual excuses about massive increases in fraud, and bad customer experiences, and how I need to buy a faraday cage for my card in case someone steals from me walking down the street. Apparently this info was delivered by the owner in a staff meeting. <sigh>

I usually intentionally stuff up the chip transation at places that are no paywave on a paywave terminal. Pull it out too soon and it fails ;)

Probably not. But since I end up driving a few different cars at different times and invariably don't have my wallet but always my phone I figure I'll try to bluff my way through if ever I'm pulled over

The owner is a moron, and has no idea how these cards work.  The fraud has actually reduced and the customer experience is far better.

I've noticed 2 Caltex sites that have both had Paywave activated in the last few weeks. Both have big "WARNING PAYWAVE" p-touch labels all over the pinpad.

I did ask a 4square owner why they had signs up saying no Paywave despite having terminals that have it enabled. Apparently kids would steal/borrow/acquire (insert appropriate word) their parents card and come and buy stuff with it since they didn't need a PIN.

The average Joe on the street understand very little about the security that's involved. I was speaking to somebody I know from a bank that shall remain nameless a few weeks ago and he was telling me about the analytics that go in in the background and how purchases from certain retailers back to back will force PIN entry even on a contactless transaction.
