There is a lady who often walks her beautiful Burmese cat on a leash around Civic Square in Wellington. I assume she probably lives in one of the nearby apartments.

It's unfortunate that New Zealanders think leash walking of cats is silly, because it is becoming very common overseas and it makes a lot of sense for the safety and wellbeing of the cat.

Great idea in my view.  They should make it compulsory.

it would prevent the *&%^%rs from roaming the neighbourhood and sh*tting on my lawn and the wife's vegie garden.

If I tried to put my cat on a leash I'd end up with it climbing all over me to strangle me with it.

Burmese cats are very dog like, and you can teach then commands and tricks. Mine knows certain words, such as a word for rolling over, and a word for milk. It was something I wasn't able to teach my dog when I had one.

I have to wonder if this is actually an issue. I don't know. Maybe with feral cats but I have cats on a farm and I have never seen one with a native. Plenty of exotics like sparrows and blackbirds, but never a tui, wood pigeon, fantail, or anything like that.

Please, can we keep this thread about our pets' pictures, and not turn it into a debate about cats vs. native birds?

Awoke this morning to find that one of our cats, "Captain", had past away overnight. She was only 12 years. She was the chattiest cat we have ever known and we shall miss that. She was a "Turkish Van" moggy cross.

We shall bury her in our garden and place a cat statue over her.

Rest in peace Captain

Captain

Sorry to hear that. She was a fine-looking cat. I lost the best friend I ever had at just age 7. It is tough. My condolences.
