bigal_nz: As an aside to her supidity, the NZ Herald I suspect purposely try to find fault with Coca Cola, which of course goes against all logic in an effort to stir up controversy and thereby sell more papers.

To be honest, I think all media, apart from radio NZ, do this.

People smoke, and know that it will likely cause health problems down the track, but they still do it because they are addicted. I don't think this is much different.

The coverage of the inquest has focused mainly on the opinion and information provided by her husband. It is not exactly clear how symptoms developed over time and what medical advice and treatment she was getting during that time.

If the husband proceeds with a civil suit of some kind, then no doubt that information will be made public. I imagine a suit would have to be based on a claim along the lines of 'Coca-cola knew about addiction and health risks but failed to adequately warn consumers'. He'll need a good lawyer though.

The last thing Coca-cola wants is a sales reducing warning added to the product.

Well after reading this I thought I may have my two cents worth.....

Sure the couple are obviously not the smartest cookies around however I would agree that a lot of people would not think death is a possibility when they sit down to have a drink or few or in their case few bottles.

So was she herself drinking the 10ish litres a day as that would mean the couple were probably drinking around $10 - $20 a day in coke from the previous comments state they were smokers as well so yeah they were no geniuses (no idea if that's how it's spelt lol).

Have to say though I think some of the coments are really quite nasty a family has lost their mother and some of you are going good stuff or similar that's harsh and uncalled for.

I wonder should someone be asking the couple why coke and why not something a little better for you like milk 10 litres of milk a day would be a lot better although in those amounts still highly dangerous but at least it's not suger and caffeine laden. Maybe the public could think about that whilst asking the questions about why were there no major alarm bells going off.

Why is it cheaper to get yourself addicted than to live healthily???

I just thought I would add this

Would a warning on the bottles really be a bad thing anyway??? Let's be honest here the human gene pool is not getting more intelligent our kids are not being taught as well as they used to be. The education system is teaching the basics in reading, writing and to a small extent maths other than that a large chunk of the current system is about teaching them how to use technology to do the thinking for them.

Glucose, Sucrose, what's another "ose" we know... Lactose.

Have a look at the nutritional information on the bottle of trim milk, the carbohydrate component isn't entirely trivial.

Is milk healthier? Drinking (New Zealand) A1 milk has stronger correlation with heart disease than smoking! Thats why we have such high rates of heart disease. If you believe the scaremongering.

Milk still contains Lactose (sugar), and overall has more energy per 100ml than coke.
No caffeine though.

Ok I used milk as a example and as far as calories go yes my bottle of Budget Homogenised Milk is worse by a decent amount a 200 mill serving of milk is 520kj compared to a 250 mill ser4ving of Coke being 450kjhowever the Carbohydrates are 9.8g per 200 ml serving of Milk compared to 27g for Coke so got it partly right (on both sides).

Don't get me wrong I am not anti Coke we drink way too much at home every week often dependant on the supermarkets specials but Coke is by far not the top of the chain when it comes to being bad for you I believe that is (or was) held by one of the fruit juices (Apples I think) Coke was sitting 3rd or 4th on the list of bad drinks "V" sat at number 2 spot this was back in the day when we only had 3 or 4 different energy drinks unlike the offerings of today.

Coca Cola Limited is no way responsible for this families loss it is a case of not seeing and doing anything about it when the alarm bells of illness and tooth decay settled in.
