Oblivian: I've seen the number of redlight runners turning right raise tenfold.

Mainly multi lane roads where there is no right turn signal to let them go any other time, of course all the lefties bust a nut to try and race around on green/yellow/red leaving the right handers stranded in the middle and no option but to run the red infront of straight-ahead traffic trying to take off.

Yes I've noticed this too. There is now no opportunity at all to turn right on busy traffic light controlled intersections that have no right turning arrow.

It's going to be a boon for traffic light installers. There were a number of right turn signals installed in the lead up to the change. Call the local council body to discuss it. The feedback does count eventually. With Auckland you can sometimes get to talk to a traffic planner.

I got left stranded in an intersection last Friday by idiots forgetting the new rules.  Tradesmen in vans turning right off a Stop sign, across the traffic; me turning left off the opposing Stop sign.

Busy traffic and so in a small gap I started to pull around the corner only to have the tradesmen (not 1 but 2 vans!) pull immediately around in front of me and cut me off - whilst they were giving me all sorts of gestures!!

I had to break and I was then in the way of on coming traffic and had to quickly reverse back from where I'd come. Wish I'd had time to see what company the vans were from so I could call and give them a large piece of my mind!!

nzkiwiman: I have made one mistake since the rule change, and it corresponded to a change in the signs that was not marked.

Coming from Green Island turning near the?Commercial?Pub the right turning traffic had to wait for through traffic coming from Brighton/Landfill area but had the right of way over the left turning traffic as they had a give way.

Around the time of the road change they removed that give way without any indication from the Green Island side that it had been removed. I turned and got tooted on by someone in that left turn bay.

Otherwise all good locally..

I drive that intersection every day, and I'll agree that it's not clear that the left turners have right of way - the give way line is still present on the road. Although, there was a layout change sign up for some time, but it was non-obvious what the change was.
