John2010: While I don't agree with much of what he has to say I also give him much respect for standing up for an electorate who actually voted him in to represent them. They being part of the population in a socially deprived region of NZ and he makes sure that they are heard (one way or another).

I would much rather listen to him, and have much more time for him than I do for the two green co-leaders, for example, who in the main spout irrational polemical political rubbish with no accountability to anyone, and who only represent that around 10% part of NZ that is taken in by that sort of rubbish, or use them to throw their vote away against because they are disillusioned overall or can't make their minds up. The woman one especially, sounds like she has just graduated from the international school of how to generate  endlessly meaningless political polemic Frown.

See?

I think the two Green Co-Leaders talk common sense all day, every day....while National's people talk a load of evasive waffle to hide the fact they just want to hand mountains of tax money over to their mates by running down public services and asset stripping public assets.

This what democracy is all about. You can be as wrong as you like. I don't mind.

scuwp: Welcome to MMP, where your house of representatives are supposedly "proportionate" to the diverse society to which they serve.

Unfortunately I see Hone as inspiring racism and dividing people rather than bringing them together to construct and develop a successful cohesive society.

...oh and he is always good for a laugh, only thing is some people actually take him and his opinions seriously.

He would go so far as to say he approaches racism in lots of what he says, I can't imagine a white politician getting away with that. He actually I believe continues to deliberately incite and encourage racism in his voters. I am of the firm belief there should be no Maori Party, imagine what would happen if I set up a political party that only spoke to Pakeha issues and for which you had to be Pakeha to be a member! There would be a lynching (As there should be).

I firmly believe in 1 Kiwi Nation.

I get the idea behind what you are saying. But in point of fact this is mistaken. Harawira is a member/leader of Mana party. There are no restrictions on membership of this party. Also there are no restrictions on joining the Maori Party either.

Well if that is the case then I am mistaken and I apologise. I know that the HH is a member of Mana (Which is marginally different from Maori Party), but it's a party primarily interested only in those issues revolving around Maori and not in what benefits NZ'r as a whole.

Hone is a simple fundamentalist who will never be happy with what he has, and consequently focuses on what he'll never get. And that's a simple and powerful argument for those who feel disenfranchised and will take the easy way out, and give him their vote.

And the pity of it all is that to keep the disenfranchised happy he has to make enough noise to attract the media. Which simply means he's wasting the opportunity he's really been given. But as long as he's making his mum proud, it's all good eh?

Mana's main billboard policy for the 2011 election was abolition of GST. This is not a platform with appeal or reward for only Maori. Mana policy is pro-worker and pro-state services like housing etc.

The Maori Party in contrast is not focused on these things at all and is a lot more flexible about their policy and has a wider choice of coalition partners.

Perhaps difficult to believe, but he is not a troll: he is a known activist and posts what he believes.

Hone is a joke, been there.

I believe that there should be one nation, but I'm against One Nation in the Australian sense which kind of was a Pakeha party Laughing

Anyway, one nation also means accepting the diversity in that nation. We have Christian parties, we had the  McGillicuddy Serious Party. These things are no more a threat to democracy or our way of life than the Maori Party or Mana.

The thing is in a democracy you have to have something close to a majority of electorate support. Sure, in theory the wider electorate could vote to give Maoris, or Christians or students or whoever, power out of proportion to their voting strength. But a majority would have to do this. We are more likely to vote for a space program.

There is a reason they call these parties Fringe Parties, and it isn't the hair.

Fringe Parties are just like Hone, a joke.

Didn't anybody tell you I was a hacker?

A troll isn't just someone you disagree with. Nor is it someone who points out you're talking nonsense.

To my mind, the troll is someone who posts inflammatory, erroneous rubbish....like the post I was responding to.

Oh give me a break!  That wasn't even close to what I was suggesting. I was actually suggesting much the opposite. Your comment is exactly why I think you are trolling.

I think this fits the description of "inflammatory erroneous rubbish" quite nicely.

I can only go by what you say...and not what you think you say.

"1 kiwi nation" is your response to Hone Harawera standing up for the interests of the Maori who voted for him.

People who think any of this is about "race" just show they don't know very much. Is that you?

The Treaty is a document relating to property rights. If all anyone sees is the brown faces of the people who hold those rights...then they are the racists.

I don't believe a reasonable person would have interpreted what I said like that. It led me to believe you are simply arguing for the sake of it. Did you read the OP? My objection was to his language, something he has been in trouble for multiple times. Lots of politicians put forward policy I disagree with, it's not about that in this thread, it's about the fact he chooses to use racist language and is almost entirely negative, abusive and disruptive which does his electorate no good, his cause is actually getting less traction because of the way he pushes his message.
