While I have had good deals from HN, they do sell things that are inappropriate - like the gold plated $40 hdmi cables

kingjj: Dropped into the local HN earlier today and the floor was littered with black ballons which were being blown up by gents in high viz yellow vests. Wonder if they are doing a 'Black Firday' sale to match the US?

I've never had any issues with the service at Harvey Norman and would happily go there for an item. They have been pretty good with deals and discounts when asked nicely. Through a union I'm entitled to a discount at NL/BB, I don't think I've ever managed to get more than a few dollars off the ticketed price so I've not bothered buying items from them.

Black friday isn't until the 30th of November though. It is close though, so possibly? I do find with HN, they do have some very good deals when they have boxing day sales, possibly loss leaders to get people through the doors.

Pretty sure it's the 23rd not the 30th. Thanks giving is the 22nd in the states.

Seem like not much people give HN a good word lol.
Personally haven't bought electronic goods from HN yet.
But bought furnitures with them few years ago when move into new place.
Dinning table & Lounge Sofas & Table Lamps...etc... They gave us quite a nice chuck on discount
When they deliver the items, I was surprise the furniture department manager come along n help.
Well maybe only when you pay a lot of $$$ then the manager will come... lol

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

Do people still fall for this nonsense?

No thanks.

I'm one of those horrible people who browse in store and buy online.

from the advert

. The gain through bi-wiring fluctuates; with a well designed crossover the benefits will be smaller – but will still yield a valuable sonic improvement. With a lesser designed crossover the result will be more explicit. The improved earthing in the crossover generally creates more bass and openness in the top-end.

anyone explain what it means and is it worth $1440

Kimber think its worth more than NZD1440.  If you look at, for instance, 3m (10') of Kimber Kable Select KS 6068 from one random US seller, you will pay around USD28,000 (yes, 28k!) for a terminated pair of cables.  This is NOT a pair of bi-wired cables - just a pair of single (one pos, one neg lead) cables.

Does that make HN "cheap"?? Wink

Sorry yes you are correct, it is 2013 when it is the 30th, my outlook calender is wrong. So yes it is likely a black frinday thing. Yet another american custom coming into NZ/Australia as another excuse for a sale, even though it has nothing to do with NZ.

$40 isn't unreasonable. It wont improve your signal or picture, but it still can be made of higher quality components which may last better etc. $1000 would probably be unreasonable. So long as they aren't telling you the signal or picture quality will improve, it's not a problem.

If the signal was analogue, then expensive cables can make a difference, such as high quality analogue audio cables. But not with digital hdmi, at least not in short lengths. A $5 chinese cable is unlikely to be of the same build quality as a $100 cable. But to be fair to retailers, that is one of the few areas they can make better margins. But you can often talk the retailer into selling the cable really cheaply. I got a $40 cable for $10 when I got a TV.

As I clearly mentioned, it's NOT about the the signal, Digital is on or off. I am not disputing that. I am saying a cable can be made of higher quality components and "look" nicer, and be worth paying a premium for, and $40 vs $5 isn't really huge money.

I think $40 NZ retail cable, vs $5 chinese website, it is likely to be a very similar cable, as the $40 cable would have GST, retailers overheads, imports duties and margin etc, so their cost buy price maybe in the $5-$10 region. I couldn't see any difference in quality when I compared them. However a $100 cable or more is likely to be a different thing.
