turnin: I remember yonks ago that people used to place transparent plastic bottles on their lawns, filled with water. I have no idea if this worked or not or where the idea came from, I don't see it being practiced today so perhaps not.

The suggestion about an air rifle is nothing but advocating animal cruelty. Use of air rifles many times results in nasty internal injuries which the animal will carry for some time in severe pain. There are many stories you can find on NZ media about animals and pets affected by this. Most of the time I think it is probably unsupervised kids having 'fun' but many adults can be that stupid and nasty as well. I linked some stories in an earlier thread on this subject.
