chevrolux: How about don't waste people's time by advertising something is for sale and then changing your mind. You are not the victim here.

Couldn't agree more. You have accepted his offer before and now you have got cold feet. That is definitely not his fault. If you don't want to sell something don't list. Best option is to seek legal advice now.

You shouldn't have agreed to sell them at that price including his plate as part payment

Call his bluff and hope he goes away

You actually deal with it, rather than hope we'll somehow do that for you.

Get your own legal advice......

The worst that can happen for you is the guy follows thru and it costs you your Plate and some $$$.

Best case he's bluffing, your lawyer calls his bluff, it costs you a few $$ and you learn a little.

Does he know who you are? Obviously you can look up the plate if you have access to Veda. If all he's got is a phone number and a first name, then who's he going to address his lawyer to?

Honestly, talk to a lawyer. Convincing us isn't going to make a lick of difference and I wouldn't really trust legal advice from here either...

JamesL: Let them make the first move?

Why waste money on a lawyer if he's bluffing..

I am a lawyer. This is what I would do. He's throwing around big words to try and scare you.

(But based on what you say I do think you have a binding contact)

I totally dont understand why you're forced/sued to go through with it.

He hasn't paid you a cent (you havnt mentioned him sending you money?)
Neither of you signed anything, only exchanged various details and agreed on a price via sms.

And like someone said above, if he has to get a loan to buy a licence plate, why would be have enough money to go and get a damn lawyer to "sue" you.

IANAL. However if I had agreed to sell something, I would stick to my word. If it isn't worth the stress to you, why don't you just sell it, or is it a matter of you finding out afterwards that it was worth more than you thought it was worth. You said that you agreed to see it for $##, but it was worth $##,###
