They wont have to go far to get their EQC claim sorted then.

Most if the epicentres seem to have been under Cook Strait. Seddon is just the nearest population centre.

In Wellington things need to be secured to the walls properly. My big bookshelves and TVs are all secured, may do the small ones some time too. Everything breakable has been taken down from the shelves... except the glasses in the kitchen, now I think about it.

The full damage will be seen tomorrow, just hopefully we don't get any more big ones overnight. Looks like Wellington city has been worse affected by this, probably being close to the epicentre. The good thing is that many buildings have been strengthened, so we do get a change to see how well that has worked. If not, I suspect in some of the old parts like Cuba Street, we may have had some facades failing, like in Christchurch. The damage at the Parliament buildings though is a concern after all the money was spent on it, and I believe it is similar base isolation on rubber and lead bearings, to Tepapa

People have been advised to stay out off the CBD until Tuesday. Both my workplaces are closed.

I am still getting a lot of alerts around the 3 and 4s on my phone. Quite a few EQ's near Paraparaumu too, but not really feeling any of them. Maybe it is a case of getting used to them. Getting woken by an EQ is a horrible feeling I think.

was a long rock n roller here for us in Napier nothing damaged though as it wasn't felt that strongly here I'd say it was somewhere around a 4 to 4.5 when it got here and if I'd been moving round at the time I'd most likely have not felt it at all
