Near the top of Vic Ave, a block down or so? Went there once, food wasn't memorable, I don't drink coffee.

The French place mentioned is just down the road from mum's house so we go there a bit - haven't eaten there though, just go there to grab coffee.

Tried the cafe at the Information Centre recently too - food wasn't great, nor was the coffee.

I am a resident of Wanganui or Whanganui just to help confuse the tourists or maybe its to give them something to talk about as you may have guessed I am an import I don't do a great deal of socialiseing in wanganui so I am always surprised to hear about all the problems with the city the gangwars etc etc To me its a sleepy hollow beside a river with a lousy shopping centre. You know the usual Council efforts"how best can we keep people away from shopping in the town center and only use the big centers like Mitre10 and countdown and Payless....Lets put parking meters along the main street that might work" Rant over
I shop online mainly anyway
other that that nice town lived in worse

Geektastic:
Skylinegodzilla: Just wondering if there is anyone else here from Wanganui?

I saw that headline and I thought it was the opening line from a joke, to be followed by holding up one hand and saying "Gimme 6!"!

What? I sond understand what that is meant to be refaced too.
But anyway so I'm guessing most of you guys replying are from Wanganui but not here now

It's a common joke told by standup comedians. Goes like this:

"Good evening! Nice to see a good crowd! Anyone here tonight from (insert name of local town or village generally held to be a bit backwards and a nest of close cousin marriage!)?"

Inevitably, several jokers will pipe up that they are indeed from wherever you said.

"Excellent! (holds up hand as if to High Five) Gimme six!" (implication being that inbreeding makes six fingers more common than 5 in the location in question!)

Born, raised, left in 1995. Return annually to visit relatives every Christmas (very briefly). Local economy appears to be going backwards rapidly, sad to watch.

Not really fair on people who are taking the time to read what you're saying though is it, considering they have to take extra time to decipher it?

You know you are quite right, (comma) I never thought of it in that way,(comma)
When I first came down to the colonies It took me a long time to decipher the language the "gdays!" the "Hey Bro" the "hey cuz cummin over for Fush and chups" So you are right I should try harder......

Jaxson:
timmmay: I don't know where any of the places you guys are talking about are. I haven't lived there in 20 years.

Mosston/Rutherford/Wanganui High.

What years at those schools for interests sake?...

Oggies Café:
https://plus.google.com/115699897559344815439/about?gl=nz&hl=en

Mosston started approx 1982, so rutherford 1988 and WHS 1990. Though I may be a year out.

Oggies had a website according to dineout... but no longer. Not worth the trip to work out if they offer something I'd eat. Typical of Wanganui and the businesses, very short sighted.

Your mum didn't happen to work at a Girls school by chance? You sound like someone I knew when I lived there (I left in 96)

Crazy. I knew a vegetarian Tim (assuming that's your actual name) at WHS but 3rd form for him would have been 92.
