Lumia 520
Purchased as a BYOD to replace a candybar device.
Best value smart fone and Nokia Map app is simply ... fantastically simple. Used it driving all over the country.

Pentax K01

I had to give my smaller Pentax Kx to my ex wife when we split so picked this up for < $300 and now my Pentax 31mm 1.8 (FA31) has a permanent home. :)
I believe this apart from my LG 42" TV and replacement PS3 to be the only toys I have bought this year.

Best gadget? Wow, so many gadgets, hard decision! Maybe best by category?

If I were pushed I would probably rate my Synology DS412+ as the best overall.

Besides that:

Camera: Lumix GH3 camera
DAC and amp: Audio-GD Reference 10.32 DAC/amp
Headphone: HiFiMan HE-6 (notable late mention the Sennheiser HD800)
Phone: Note 3
Phone accessory: Moga Pro gamepad

zhuyan: For me it has to be the new Macbook Pro with Retina Display - stunning screen, faster processor and thinner/lighter design/build

Look forward to the year of 2014 bringing more interesting and helpful gadgets to our lives!

Hmm.

A toss up between my 27" i7 iMac or my Kindle Paperwhite.

Probably the Kindle.

I had three different kindles including one Kindle Fire HD 8.9; have to admist I use them less by the day as I realize I've been using other devices including ipad to read my kindle books...

Since I (gasp!) do not own an iPad (the one Apple device I struggle to see the point of, at least until iWatch comes out when there will be two devices I struggle to see the point of!) the only other thing I read on is my iPhone if I am stuck waiting in the doctor's surgery or something. For me, the Kindle replaces books and that is all I want that device to do.

Ultimate Ears BOOM

BT speaker, 15 hour battery life, and it talks. Even the packaging is the bees knees

This year I bought:

 - Onkyo TX-8050
 - KEF Q300
 - KEF M500
 - iPhone 5S
 - Nikkor 85mm DX Micro

If I had to pick a favourite it would be the KEF Q300 which are absolutely deserving of the critical acclaim that they have received in hi-fi enthusiast media.

Second vote for the Kobo Aura HD. Nearly bought a Paperwhite, but decoded that it was worth paying the extra for the Aura. I'm pleased I made that choice.

How are the KEF M500? They're getting big wraps amongst the headphone crowd...

They are fantastic - perhaps a little more bassy than my Q300s but not offensively so.

They are surprisingly easy to drive, with my iPad and iPhone handling them comfortably without needing an amp.

Been pretty happy with my LG G2 so far(barring LTE issues), would be a tie between that and the Nexus 7 2013
