I have tons of Lego and have always been a fanatic well into my teens. Still have it and will never throw it away.
As an 8 year old I participated in a competition and won a free trip to Legoland Denmark (I was living in Holland at the time) with a build of a custom sports car.

If I were to have a son some stage in the future I am definitely having him play with Lego, it is so good for visual perspective & understanding of engineering.

Thanks for the advice, in the end we found Lego Junior, suitable for 4-7 year olds. I sat down on Sunday night with my son with this set

http://shop.lego.com/en-US/LEGO-Juniors-Construction-10667

He took to it like a duck to water, and was easily able to assemble the items with minimal input from me mostly around following the guides. He doesn't seem as interested in building as much as playing with the end result but I expect with some time he might be more adventurous. One thing I was exceptionally impressed was, with the quality of the instructions. The Other thing was that a second booklet with alternative things to build with the same set was present, and apparently even more on the internet though I am not sure where and haven't had a chance to look.

The nice thing about Lego junior is that it plugs into the normal Lego with no issues. My wife surprised me by letting me know she had won a 7-11 set for a plane she has had in her drawer, but looking at it, I'd suspect it a bridge too far for a 4 year old just yet :)

So my wife just bought me a ton of Lego for my (37th!) birthday.

Best present I have received in years - I have spent a few evenings happily sat on the floor rummaging through bricks and I have a hankering for more.

Already built my Millennium Falcon and have the weekend set aside to construct this monstrous Unimog.

Happy days.

As an aside, the local prices for the Falcon were frankly obscene! $299 list price and that was about the cheapest I could find it for. The missus got it on Amazon.com for around US$120 and the shipping didn't add much...

That said, I got the Unimog for a (relatively) great price on TradeMe - new and sealed - considering it is now a retired model and prices everywhere seem to be on the increase.

Who is the cheapest retailer for lego in NZ? I missed out on getting my Son the City police station which was 35% off the other day at warehouse, gutted, I'd like to get him one before July.

It would be nice if you were also planning to encourage your daughter to get into lego too. Perhaps standard lego rather than Lego Friends as it solves a problem that doesn't exist.

She is 3, and has a tendency to put things in her mouth that she should not, so right now, Lego isn't an option, and it's also nice for my Son to have a "him" only thing. However when the time is right we will see how she finds it.

Unsure what you mean about a problem that doesn't exist and lego friends?

I thought I'd resurrect this threads activity. We bought soon to be 7 year old another lego city, from the Amazon when we were in the US. We took him to the lego store in Hawaii and his mind was just blown, but not as much as mine. Man they have some wonderful stuff there, for boys AND girls.

I thought I'd also ask if anyone had any COMPLETE lego city sets they no longer required and were looking to sell?

While I don't have any sets to sell I would love to be able to visit a lego store and spend a few hundred in the pick a part section. I prefer Lego Technic but completely understand anyone collecting lego at all.

Its a good investment as you will always get your money back!

As my earlier posts say, my experience with lego for my son was buying him a new set a few school holidays ago and not seeing him for 2 weeks ! :)

Cheapest babysitting option that exists!

Ooo Lego!

I've got a couple of the Technic sets, I have the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano built up and the Mercedes-Benz Unimog built up as well.

Currently building the last wheeled crane that was released.

This, though, would be a awesome addition

But at NZD $599.00, its  a bit pricey, but still cheaper than the real thing (Circa $360,000.00)

Is that the new blue crawler crane? or a different one?

Has anyone here got any of the old classic space lego they would like to part with, been looking for a few of the 32 x 32 bases as well.

Started sorting through my (my kids...cough cough) old lego at my mums house and was amazed at watching the kids play with the old space stuff - love it more than the new/current lego.

A group of my friends and I (mid 30s to mid 40s) are into jigsaws and we'd swap them with each other.  I recently decided to buy a couple of Lego sets just to mix it up (The Whitehouse and The Louvre) and everyone loved the change of pace.  Lego is now our new jigsaw, and we have a VW Beetle set and The Trevi Fountain on the way.

I am about to put The Whitehouse and Louvre sets on Trademe (both in excellent, as new condition), unless anyone here might be interested in them?  PM me if you are.
