Thanks for your comments folks. Had another call at 10.30 last night!

So it seems that ditching the landline altogether is the only answer.

As an interim measure, you could always just take the phone off the hook before you go to bed, and tell anyone you know who might need you urgent to use your mobile instead if they can't get through?

I haven't had a landline for some years now; cellphone only. No random calls from telemarketers or scammers. It's great!

I have nothing useful to contribute to the thread. I'm just being smug :)

Some phones you can set it to not ring when certain numbers call. eg if you stop ringing on 0000, it maybe able to stop it ringing. But some of these scammers are now using numbers that look like local calls. Not sure if they are hacking numbers over VOIP and calling from those.
