Well, that was quick - probably because their PR folks are Wellington-based as well:

Charging now. Will try a wet shave soon, but bear in mind instructions say it can take up to three weeks for skin to adapt if coming from other shaving system (e.g. blades). Since I've using a trimmer for a while I don't think it will be too bad.

Will let you know the experience.

Shoot, is that the $1000 dollar one? That better last as long as how many $5 razors one will buy over the years!

What is the difference between a bead trimmer and an electric shaver? For somebody that shaves once-twice a week what should I be looking for? It's currently looking like I will buy this one...

Although people have said stay away from cheap Philips but this looks like a good price and it has averaged 4 stars from over 1000 reviews so it must be good. I hope.

A beard trimmer TRIMS - I have that exact model and it can trim from 0.5mm to 18mm. Your face is never fully shaven. It's good if you want to keep your beard (or facial hair) trimmed but not completely gone.

Anyway, just charged the Philips shaver and used it under the shower (this model is waterproof). I decided to go for a wet shave since my previous experience many years ago with dry shaving wasn't great. For this I bought a can of Nivea shaving cream.

It felt like a facial massage. It's very quiet - almost can't hear it with the shower running. Easy to hold and very light. Very smooth finish and quick results.

There isn't a $1000 model in the press release. The Shaver Series 9000 S9111/12 (the one in the photo) is available for RRP $499.95, while the Shaver Series 9000 S9111/26 with SmartClean is available for RRP $599.95.

Philips PR tells me they expect retailers to sell these for $100 less than RRP. Bellow is the release... As I said I received the press release a couple of hours before this thread started, that's why I decided to try it:

Men face the same challenge every day – getting as close a shave as possible without irritating the skin. As a company focused on improving people’s lives through meaningful innovation, Philips has set the standard for men who want the perfect shave with the Shaver Series 9000, which delivers their closest shave yet.

In order to tackle hard-to-reach areas where hairs can grow in different directions, men often have to go over the same part of their face or neck repeatedly during shaving, causing skin sensitivity and irritation. To combat this, the Philips Shaver Series 9000’s innovative and unique contour detect technology features three shaving heads which each flex in eight different directions. This flexibility means the Shaver 9000 can detect and follow every contour of the face, for a precise shave that catches and cuts up to 20 percent more hairs in a single pass.

“We know that men want the most advanced technology at their fingertips in every aspect of their lives and at Philips we’ve taken this very seriously,” explains Jack van Strien, CEO, Personal Care at Philips. “Our designers have taken innovation to a new level during the development process for the Philips Shaver Series 9000. Thanks to the latest technological advances, men can now experience a perfect shave that leaves skin looking and feeling great – in fact, no other Philips electric shaver cuts hairs closer to skin.

  • The Philips Shaver Series 9000 includes a SmartClick Precision Trimmer for perfect moustache and sideburn trimming.
  • The AquaTec Wet & Dry seal of the electric shaver lets men choose between a wet and dry shave.
  • The advanced charging system gives you two options: 50 minutes of running time after a single one-hour charge, or quick charge for one full shave.

Interested to hear your thoughts as you use it more. I've used a Gilette Blade for many years, but if electric can do the same thing quicker then I'd take a look.

I think I have found two options I like..

http://www.harveynorman.co.nz/personal-care-and-health/shavers-and-trimmers/mens-shavers-and-groomers/philips-aquatouch-wet-and-dry-shaver-38266.html

Or

https://www.noelleeming.co.nz/shop/household/personal-care/mens-shavers/breville-at941-men-s-saver/prod191047.html

Will shop around for prices, im sure it will be cheaper else where. Which one do you guys recommend? The extra $30 is probably worth it because it is an updated model.

Your two options are very similar to the two I have. There is no contest, the heads on the more expensive one give a significantly faster and better shave.

Thanks. Noticed Briscoes have the AT941 for $150 so will see if Noel Leeming will price match/beat.

Thanks everyone!

That is true, the triple head one will be far superior, and I have one of them with the triple heads. But to be honest, I don't find that the  rotary ones compare to the braun syncro foil one I have, which is over 10 years old. It's RRP was anout $650, but it was on special at the time for $250. The philips isn't good for around the neck, while the braun is good everywhere, and for about $60 you can get a new head and foil for it which makes it like new. Also has a LCD screen and countdown timer of minutes remaining, which the philips don't have. ALthough they seem to have removed LCDs on newer models, which maybe to reduce cost/ increase margins.

yeah - it's been my experience that you'll get a significantly better shave in all areas of the face and neck with a foil shaver than a rotary shaver.
