reven: on Saturday I bought a 3d printer from warehousestationery.  SO glad I bought it from a store and not online, stupid thing wouldn't work and all my googling revealed it was a common problem and suggested I pull it apart to fix it (after just unboxing it).

So I took it straight back to the store and got a refund.

You'd be doing well to even get the chance to say 'Just browsing' to staff at Blenheim's DSE.  It's not that they are short staffed.  More that half of them are in the storeroom out back doing goodness knows what!  Spot on regards HN and NL. Plus I have been told total nonsense on more than one occasion.

Dunnersfella:

And as an aside, if you don't care about 3D, but would like 100Hz or higher, you'll be getting it, whether you want it or not.

Yes, I know. But I made it clear that it wasn't a selling point for me, and he then tried to push it as a compelling selling point anyway. I don't care whether it's there, but I will never use it and I certainly won't let it feature in my purchase decision.

It was pretty clear that what ever I actually stated I was after, he was determined to sell me that particular TV, come hell or high water. Plus, he was trying to portray himself as an expert, when it was pretty clear he had a major problem with basic arse-elbow differentiation. Which I found really annoying as there are some customers who don't know any better, and will be taken in by this type of ignorant babble and end up spending a lot of money on potentially the wrong thing as a result.

Don't blame the salesman its managements fault in not providing proper training. Also if they pay peanuts they will get monkeys.

But I do blame the salesman at least as much as the management.

How hard is it to admit that you don't know the answer to a question, of better still offer to go and check specs, or to grab an alternate staff member who might know the answer?

Pretending to know stuff you don't, and potentially suckering tech-illiterate people into buying an expensive product that doesn't meet their requirements is unethical in my book.

I remember arguing with a sales guy in NL one time. They had a bunch of these cheap hard drive recorders. I can't remember the exact price now.

Anyhoo, my issue was that nowhere in the manual or on the box or on the unit itself did it specify how large the hard drive was.

I said to the guy, "I'm sorry, but I can't make an informed decision on whether or not this thing is actually good value for money because it willfully doesn't give a capacity anywhere."

I think he was pissed off with me because there went an easy commission.

To my mind, it would be like buying a box of apples for $20. But you don't know if there is one apple or ten in the box.
