I remember when I had no hair I was either going to tattoo eyes on the back of my head or tattoo hair

I love the look of tattoos, especially a full sleeve, and I have a close mate who runs a very reputable studio in Wellington, but they're not really for me.

1. I don't know of any design that I want on me for life
2. I hate the thought of getting one lazered off if I decide I no longer like it (hurts like hell I'm told, and you have an ugly scare)
3. I don't know how/won't like how it will look when I'm 70
4. It's an expensive hobby
5. I'm a girls blouse and am scared of the pain

Apart from all that I love em though, lol...

IlDuce: WINZ will pay for this...

At the risk of being overly pedantic, what you are actually stating here is:
"Working kiwi taxpayers will pay for this."

Remember, the Government cannot give you any money that it has not first taken from the pay-packet some other New Zealander!

Dead right, and I'm one of them, contributing $538 tax back every week.

Its a pretty shortsighted arguement.

There are many things every day the government "pays for" which the cost/benefit to tax payers is massive compared to doing nothing.

If the payment gets a Kiwi back in work then the investment is worth it

Congratulations.  Well done :-)

It's not an argument, just a statement of fact.

Personally, I think older people sporting tattoos look totally badass. I don't have one myself, but only because I can't seem to commit to something I'd like to keep for life. Would love to see some pics of everybody else's ink though!

wasabi2k: As has been said:
Reputable parlours are safe - don't reuse needles, suitably sterile conditions. Shop parlours based on word of mouth and reviews, NOT price. At the end of the day there is always risk, but unless you have immune issues or use a really shoddy parlour it isn't a worry. Obviously I wouldn't go from nothing to 4 hour sessions as the ink does cause your body to react in large volumes, hence the gaps between getting serious work done.

No they are not as sterile as an OR, but neither are they cutting you open.

It's not how sterile it is, wound infection is easily dealt with. Hepatitis C and HIV does not go away.

Got this (my last) tattoo about 7 years ago in Chang Mai, Thailand - I have 5 others. I spent a couple of years looking at and humming and hahing about the design before getting it. It's a bit bigger than a CD and I'm quite happy with the result. Do they hurt? Yes :-) The photo was taken moments after completion, hence the raw look.

You can always cut out that section of your skin or put someone else's over that section to hide it up.

I wanted something to do with Photography, and I thought if I'm going to do it, do it properly.  It's still a bit sore but no regrets :-)
