Don't want to spoil anything, but that was a sad ending.
I can't wait to see the next episode

I clearly marked the title as a spoiler thread, so...

***SPOILER BELOW***

Clara apparently died at the end of the episode. It's been widely known that she was leaving the show, and also that she was being killed off. I wish they had kept both those facts under wraps as it takes away the impact if you know it's coming. I found this stuff out weeks ago without looking for it.

It's they same when they change Doctors, it would be so much better of you didn't know it was coming. Or if they did it halfway through a season to really surprise us.

Anyway, with two episodes left in the series I wouldn't be surprised if somehow Clara somehow temporarily comes back. If for no other reason than her death, as it stands, being completely pointless. They need to somehow make her death count for something.

Certainly Peter Capaldi had hinted at that ^ in interviews since he arrived here.

Prime News just outed Clara's death without so much as a "spoiler alert" or even a "look away now". I guess they would say everybody should watch live, including all the ads ;-)

It was my understanding that there are 2 episodes left and then the xmas special (where potentially the new sidekick is introduced).

I think the issue will be is that there are multiple Claras, so even though this one is played by Jenna Coleman, it doesnt mean that there might be other people playing the same character.

Yeah was very sad. Went to see Capaldi on stage last night and he said she was originally leaving last season and then again in the Christmas special but he and Moffat eventually managed to convince her to start and several episodes had to be rewritten.

He also said simmering along the lines of "what happened did happen but lets just say the Doctor won't accept that's the end."

Quite enjoyed the latest episode. But as a bit of a nitpicker, the things that stood out to me were:

- I assumed he no longer had his sonic glasses, but he then used them at the end. Why did he never scan the monster to try to figure out what it was and defeat it?
- A substance 400 times harder than diamond and 25 feet thick - I don't care how many billions of times you punch it, you ain't getting through.
- What was the "Bird" reference for? I might need to rewatch.
- The talk of the hybrid confused me, has that ever been mentioned before? Hopefully that will be explained more next episode.

Overall though I thought it showed a much better thought out and consistent episode than Doctor Who usually manages.

Sonic X is basically a plot device, a get out of jail free card for the writers.  You don't use your GOOJFC if you don't need to.

A bird pecking, peck, peck, peck until eventually it gets somewhere.  Tenacity.  It's his message to his next self.

PS: I'm not familiar with the story, but google tells me the quote comes from  "The Shepherd Boy" (Brothers Grimm)  " [...] how many seconds of time are there in eternity [...] the Diamond Mountain, which is two miles and a half high, two miles and a half wide, and two miles and a half in depth; every hundred years a little bird comes and sharpens its beak on it, and when the whole mountain is worn away by this, then the first second of eternity will be over[...]"

See The Doctor's comments about Ashilda no longer being entirely human. What does he call her then. What does she call herself now.  If I were a betting man I think I'd be fairly sure where that's going.

That "Shepherd Boy" stuff explains the bird reference and makes me happier with him wearing down the barrier over time. I still think that they should have omitted the sonic glasses though (except he probably needs them for next week!).
