This is a subject I feel strongly about. I also feel media organisations have a certain responsibility (at least they used to) to present content that doesn't merely pander to the sensibilities of the lowest common denominator. I find the extreme commercially-driven dumbing down of all media in New Zealand in particular reprehensible. But ultimately, the fault lies with the consumer. Media organisations also have to make money to survive, and the crap they put out is in response to what the majority of viewers and readers (the few who are left) tune in to. If you want to raise the tone, give the Kardashians a miss, unplug the router and hand your kids a book.
