I always go out as parking isn't that easy in our area, and, well, I like to be considerate. Not saying that someone who doesn't isn't, but it's not an issue for me to go out and hopefully it makes their day a tiny bit better.

UberEats has expanded, in Wellington it now covers Johnsonville up to Churton Park and all of Newlands.

Lower Hutt has it now from the Western hills - Petone - Seaview up to the northern end of Taita (Wainuiomata and Eastbourne have missed out)

Hamilton also has it, I'd assume Tauranga won't be far off from getting it.

I see back when this thread started people commenting on viability at $6 per delivery (it's $5 in Australia, fun fact).

Most of the money they pay to the courier comes from the 35% they charge the restaurant. (Yes, really).

So if you order food to the value of $20, Uber charges you $6 for a total of $26, but takes $7 of that $20, leaving the restaurant with $13. If the delivery driver doesn't deliver the food and Uber has to refund you, they pay the restaurant $0, even though they already produced the food and gave it to the courier that Uber supplied. They also outright forbid in the contract charging more for Uber Eats customers to compensate for the usurious charges, and impose a $200/month "technology access charge" to the restaurant.

For the most part, anytime you order Uber Eats, the restaurant is making a loss on your order, or barely breaking even. If you can afford to get up and go there to get your food, please for the love of all that's holy do so.

I'm surprised the police haven't arrested Uber for holding guns to the heads of restaurant owners and forcing them to enter into such agreements [/sarc]

It's a free market. If the restaurant, Uber and the consumer enter into a voluntary contract, the love of all that's holy doesn't enter into it.

I'm sadly JUST outside of their delivery area. I was going to try it for lunch today. It sounds like a good service though, hopefully they expand that extra few hundred meters so I can try it in the future.

I think you mentioned being on Manners St. If you like Mexican food the place on Dixon St has some really nice dishes. Their chicken in particular is really nice. Not the cheapest though.

I know a few restaurants who have pulled out due to the fees. They aren't bitter about it, they all agreed to the fees to see how it went, didn't work for them. A few have negotiated lower fees, but most are released if they ask.
