Geektastic: Decade? Some of these towns look as though not a dollar has been spent in a century.
Many would be better bulldozed and forgotten.
Yet we spend billions on Auckland and it's still the ultimate "sh*t town".

Sites like this FB page are just wannabe shock jock click bait fishers. The only purpose they provide is to highlight the crap job that has been done with regional development over the last decade.
I see literally everything is political in your mind. xD

And just how much did that ridiculous restriction add to the cost of the bridge? Not a ridiculous restriction. Respecting culture is important if a nation is going to have a untied involved community. I am sure a motorway would not be approved over Stonehenge or through the ground of Buckingham Palace.

is money the be all and end all for you?
Are the strong opinions of a mythical monster on the subject of multi-pile bridge architecture the be all and end all for you?
Sorry Cromwell you're going to stay a sh!t hole because we blew the bridge budget to upgrade your 1 way bridges on North Island superstitions.
What about the other 40-something bridges across the Waikato River - sorry Kidney patients, no more scientific transplant operations for you - we've got some important superstitions to spend money on.

A society that ignores the culture of it's indigenous people is a rabble.
I'm ignoring nothing - particularly hard truths. I'm simply endorsing best bang for other peoples buck. Weather your motivation is preserving culture, saving lives, or making regions less sh!tty an opulently elaborate bridge design is not money well spent.
Ask your self this: Would spending millions extra on an un-necessarily elaborate bridge design do anything material to preserve a culture, especially when compared to spending the same millions on perpetuating the language of that culture? Or perhaps spending the same millions lifting a town, where that same culture has been relegated to rot, out of the gutter?
