Just wanted to update. I got the phone back, they replaced the motherboard, with no charge. It took 6 days total, which I was surprised by. Thanks for the suggestions.

Got both back in about a week. Docs state that the motherboard was replaced with new IMEI numbers.

I had another G3 that was bought offshore and the quote from FoneFix was $570. ouch!

Haha you didn't work for lenovo then. Months and months of problems.

Hehe same here few years back.... 1 day business contract on a PC with a faulty PSU - 3 months later they finally swapped the PSU out.

They did I was a bit surprised, as a lot of people are stating the same, they refunded them. I just hope the new one other craps out in the next month, or doesn't at all. I only have a month left on the warranty. I feel like I'm holding a ticking time bomb.

The warranty doesn't mean anything considering the power of the CGA. They can't simply say "Well, you got your warranty period out of it so that's enough to meet out obligations" if it craps out a day after their explicit warranty ends. Actually, they can SAY that (even if it's technically illegal because they would be misleading you about your rights) but if you stand up for yourself they can't get away with it. It's clearly a failure of substantial character being a serious fault and one that would have put you off purchasing had you been acquainted with it at that time. Those are grounds to reject the phone and require a refund. You don't even need to allow them the opportunity to repair it in those circumstances. So you did them a favour by accepting that repair - not the other way around.

Not really.. but ok..

You just don't get it. The reason it's charged when the customer drops the phone off, before the repairer has looked at it to determine if it's a warranty issue, much less charged the retailer because it wasn't a warranty issue, is to act as a deterrent to aforementioned ratbags.

I wish I would have known that before accepting the phone after the repair. Yeah I'm glad they offered me a refund. I like the 5X and the way it gets updates straight away, but it was like walking around with a ticking timebomb in my pocket. I'm more than happy with my Vodafone V8, performance wise it's better than my 5X (the extra GB of RAM probably helps a lot, I'm able to switch between memory hungry apps like Pokemon Go without having them restart).
