You said that before and I still think you're wrong. Parking forwards is also less safe, because you're backing into traffic/pedestrians, and is stupid in the case of supermarkets where a covered walkway is provided for you to stand and load groceries into the back of your car.

If you want the official view remember that is the Land Transport (Road User) Rule 2004 not the Road Code.

The AA legal advice AFAIK doesn't come from a lawyer.

I've found it's individual drivers 99% of the time, not the company.

I had a Courierpost guy, every time he came down, he'd go past the front door, right to very back of property, past the signs saying use front door.

I mentioned it one day, and he said "Oh I don't know what is the front".

I said usually the opposite side to the back, and there's a sign anyway.

He then said "f*** you" and reversed at speed out.

I complained, and his supervisor said he said I was the one that said F*** you. Anyway after that courierpost stuff got delivered by the post person with their cart...fine with me....don't care how they do it really.

Recently the van is back, but a different driver. This one comes to the front.

Then I had a Post Haste guy...I'd see the parcel at local depot, scanned in, scanned in, for 3 days or more. Went down one day annoyed, and office lady rang him and said oh it's not in his bin. I got her to check, it was, in fact 2 parcels.

So I said, I don't mind 2 days, but 3 is a bit much, especially if it's a Friday (meaning delivery waits till Monday).

Told driver too, now he always comes within 2 days.

I did email them and say I was very happy with driver lately. When they are good I think it's nice, they probably do get endless complaints about stuff.

Thanks for pulling the actual section out. Interesting, as you say, 90 degree parks are a gray area, particularly as there is no direction indicated, unlike other angles, where it is clear that your direction of park is in line with the direction of the road. For this reason, I would see it as something worth arguing, 90 degree = 50/50 on direction of travel being indicated.

From the article "Should the driver reverse angle park, they will interrupt the oncoming lane of traffic upon entry and could cross the centre line to exit the park." I would argue that 90 degree parks would result in the centre line being crossed most of the time. However, are these very common on roadsides as opposed to carparks?

You know this because you got the ticket and they could back it up with a sign or bylaw?

The ticketers make assumptions that can't be sustained sometimes.

I'm the same - always want to park facing out. That way I can make a quick getaway. Plus as you say, you can visually clear the area before reversing in, and when driving out you can see it's clear.

But at a supermarket, blocking easy access to the boot to put the groceries in?

In relation to Section 6-13 Parking at an Angle on the Land Transport (Road User) Rule

"If the road controlling authority has indicated that vehicles may be parked only at an angle to the direction of the road-way, a driver must not stand or park a vehicle (other than a cycle) otherwise than in accordance with the direction indicated."

This section has nothing to do with parking nose in or out (as indicated by the specific exclusion of cycles from the requirement). It's to do with not parking contrary to the direction of the markings - i.e. not parallel parking in an angled parking space.

The reason for not parking opposing the direction of traffic flow in the case of parking parallel to the roadway is obvious, however - often such parks are part of a lane and during the hours of darkness there will be no red reflector visible to vehicles driving in that lane.

Don't for even one second assume that the Parking Wardens are infallible either - they make incorrect calls at times just like the rest of us. Like the time a mate's car was nearly towed from a perfectly lawful parking space in Downtown Auckland by the Auckland City Council Parking Warden that didn't understand the signage.

Did you actually read the link Mike? There's nothing there or in the law that I can see that says reversing into a perpendicular space is illegal. Angled, sure. I would contest any such ticket unless the direction of parking is marked
