Watery eye, or the "third eyelid not retracting" issue? Ours had the latter after a scrap. Took ages but eventually resolved by itself.

Correction: At our GP a non-funded or casual patient consult is $83 vs $63 for funded, but last couple of vet visits have been $150.

Still about double regardless of funding.

When you say Fluffy gets full-whack - is that with the back of a spade, or is that the bill?

Sure but what about your meds? On discharge from hospital I got hundreds of painkiller capsules/tablets for $6. I actually ended up taking them all back and sticking with Panadol.

My dog's painkillers by comparison used to cost $3 per tablet.

As to fluffy: "There aren't many problems you can't solve with a ball-peen hammer!"

Right, because the government subsidies the cost of your human medication and when I say the Government, I mean taxpayers.

Taxpayers do not subside your pets medical expenses.

I do wonder if some will charge more if it is an insurance job, due to more admin etc. eg Doctors will often ask if you have insurance before they will give you a price for a procedure.

It was a deep scratch from a new fight. The fact that it was a new fight was very fortunate for insurance purposes. Apparently had we been an hour or two later in bringing her in, she would have lost the eye. Turned out there was a lot of beef going on between our cat and the neighbour cat at that particular time.

The high cost was because it required an overnight stay with hourly monitoring (on New Year's Eve) and a pile of medication.

Exactly my point - hence it's so expensive.

I don't expect the govt to subsidies animal meds, with the possible exception of guide dogs. I don't have any pets myself any more.
