I did not like Radio Live but I have to acknowledge that they have the best traffic reports so they are top choice for the drive to work.
This is because they feed in local traffic reports for each of their transmission facilities.
quickymart:
There aren't enough FM frequencies, I listen to it on AM. The nearest FM frequency is in Rodney, which I can sort of pick up but not really. AM works for fine me (for the moment). Mind you, if this merger goes ahead - and it probably will - Magic content will most likely appear on Radio Live's FM frequency, and I daresay they'll simulcast it on AM too.
Auckland frequencies have changed for Magic and Radio Live
Radio Live is now only on 702 AM and will be re-branded as Magic Talk from Jan 19th
Magic is now using 100.6 FM (used to be Radio Live) from Jan 5th.

The Rodney 104.9 FM remains but RDS now points it to 100.6 for me now.
There would be plenty of FM stations if they didnt insist on the giant gaps inbetween them. Silly legacy broadcast layout is so inefficiant.
Almost makes the case for some form of digital broadcasting if that ship had not already sailed for people using apps instead.
4Mhz between The Sound and The Breeze is probably about as close as they can get without interference.
Here is the Weekday line up for Magic Talk from the NewsHub full story here
6am - 9am = The AM Show with Duncan Garner, Amanda Gillies & Mark Richardson
9am - 12pm = Peter Williams
12pm - 3pm = Sean Plunket
3pm - 6pm = The Ryan Bridge Drive Show
6pm - 7pm = Newshub Live a 6
7pm - 11pm = Leah Panapa
12am - 6am = Tony Amos
My understand is that, for instance, in Wellington Radio Live is 98.9FM, and from Saturday, that same frequency will be Magic Talk
Magic Music appears not to be changing at all

This all sounds to me like it was a restructure to get rid of the old staff\hosts
I think actually the FM frequencies in Auckland and Wellington will be used for Magic Music, and talk will be on AM.
I am surprised to see that they have a full talk schedule during the week, with talk programming being scaled back only on the weekends. It seems like they have maintained most of the cost base of Radio Live while reducing their potential audience due to the baby boomer branding and the lack of an FM frequency in two major cities.
It doesn't make a lot of commercial sense to me, unless it is part of a strategy to distance radio from Mediaworks' other assets so that it can be sold off as a standalone business.
