Depends if item has resale value.... once it has no value or I know Im not giving it up, the box generally goes.

Years ago, I had a large game collection, biffed all the boxes/cases.... I'm now kicking myself as some would be worth something if complete :(

I keep small boxes for reshipping things. I don't know why. I rarely sell anything though the boxes have come in handy more than once for sending things I have given away, so I guess it has some point. I just think every small box may come in handy for something one day. I also keep larger boxes, mainly because of inertia. I don't really know what to do with them but it's too much trouble to get rid of them so they just go in a corner of the storeroom. We have a lot of space, but we also have a lot of rubbish.

Scott3:

I am amused by the people keeping giant TV boxes. Space is super valuable in my house. No way I could justify storing a giant TV box for years for the small increase in resale value of a boxed TV. With the bigger TV's, they are easier to fit in a car without a box anyway.

I have my TV safe in it's box right now - primarily because I'm renovating, but because it rarely gets used it might not get taken out again.

This thread needs a poll.

I’m voting keep.

Nope.  Not a single one.  Large boxes get reused as weed matting, small ones recycled.

I used to keep everything "just in case" but realised one day just in case of what? after biffing everything away one December clean out I've started putting anything that can straight into the recycle bin and if its to big I wait till the end of the month and take them to the transfer station (not sure if it applies to all transfer stations but at my local there is no charge for using their large recycling dump bins)

Dunno what it is now, but feels very satisfying to just get rid of these things

You can sell the Apple boxes on Trade Me. People pay circa $10~ for some reason.

Yes I have seen this often, people even ask dumb questions like is there a phone in the box :)

I keep TV boxes under the house, they are good if moving etc as someone stated before.

I keep all boxes of valuable stuff in case there is a return needed, then dump. Apple type stuff I keep for resale, its more saleable if ALL complete

I keep the small boxes. For larger boxes, I will keep them for as long as the Warranty runs for.

Quality chinglish that.

I keep all boxes for as long as the warranty on the product is valid for or if it will help to move said product. Otherwise I bin it.
