I'd use it to make my TV "smart" again
At some point it just stopped connecting to Wifi and we have no other way of connecting it to the internet in the lounge.
I'd also likely ditch Sky TV at that point...

This would be a replacement for my parents who think they have to keep sky to be able to watch freeview in a non DVB-T area.
Sony Bravia TV K9000F Android TV. Not replace but extend.
I'd use it to actually allow my wife to watch Freeview again in the new house, as I haven't managed to get around to sourcing an attic UHF aerial!

I'd replace our old dish TV. The remote's getting a bit useless now so it would certainly lower my frustration levels.
I would replace my poor old dad's setup, which consists of:
a) a Frankenstein HTPC in a case with a dodgy fan controller, with black duct tape covering the blinding blue and red LEDs on the front. It runs LibreELEC and has various addons installed for the NZ services, which constantly break. It doesn't have wifi so it's connected to my old TP-Link router running as a wireless bridge to his actual router. This also drops occasionally and he doesn't understand when or why it's happened. Last time it happened, all he knew was that Sky Sport Now wasn't working, so he called Spark and confused the snot out of the poor CSR who answered the call. I was mortified when I learned about it. Because I have a baby and can't go over to fix things like I used to, last summer he paid for several months of Sky Sport without being able to watch it because he didn't want to bother me. He just listened to the cricket on the radio instead.
b) An old DishTV DVB-S satellite receiver, with a dodgy infrared receiver that requires him to bend down and hold the remote parallel to the floor for any button presses to be recognised.
He claims to be happy with this setup but he never asks for anything. I know this would transform his life...
Not for me, but for a fresh setup. Would be for the mother-in-law who we've just had a sleep out built for and she's stuck watching Netflix on a laptop.
I'd use it to consolidate my dad's setup and make it easier for him to use
My freeview box has just decided to stop working, so swmbo now has to watch tv using the chromecast.Unfortunately shes not very tech and casting is a bit of a challenge for her. I was looking at this box the other day and thought thats what we need.
That Android TV box would replace the not-so-smart features of my outdated non-Android Sony smart TV, which does not have access to Freeview on-demand, only has a few apps, and no longer has a functioning app store.
I had a Panasonic BD/HDD recorder, but gave it to my son as they didn't have a TV with built in Freeview (Mine does).
So, it would go here:
It would go to add bit of tv goodness to my home office setup.
This trusty old steed might be put to pasture soon to save some bucks since its owner is no longer showing NZ cricket. SmartVU would be an ideal replacement.
Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?
This old girl has no smarts, no freeview
She lives next to the house dish connection port but they just don't work together
She just sits there getting older by the day, she is already 8 years old and was pre-used as a display
The saying you can teach old dogs new tricks just doesn't work for this old girl.
The SmartVU+ would give her a new lease on life and make her feel 6 years young, and she could make a life long partner with the new SmartVU+ and the dish connection port and not just be a display piece, just sitting there unused for the rest of her life.
It would also make a pleasant surprise for my pregnant wife, she is going to be sitting down quite a lot over the next 3 years feeding our newborn due on the 29th of December.
Despite the years of faithful service in the lounge, I think it's about time to retire the trusty Tivo. The fan is getting noisy and how the hard drive has managed to run all this time, I really don't know. As for the little Acer Atom box, it was underpowered from the get go.
