I used to use Jimbo's some years back, but no longer buy it. It did have a long shelf date, plus unusual texture and smell at times, which got me wondering about how many preservatives etc were pumped into it.

My cats mainly get bikkies, which the vets told me was nutritionally fine. They get a small chunk of meat once a day as a treat. It is not their main meal, though Tuffy wishes it was.

Animates have bulk deals for their cans right now: Fur Frenzy Sale (animates.co.nz)

When I had cats I would always get a mix of the Fancy Feast normal and elegant tins.

... unlike kangaroos.

Speaking of which, Jimbo's Kangaroo meat is Her Majesty's favourite. Its also fun sending friends overseas photos of the cat wolfing down chunks of Skippy.

We feed our cats on Hills dry food along with Jimbo's Kangaroo - it is their favorite and is a bit lower fat (being indoor cats it is easy to get them to chonk up). They only need a teaspoon full of meat once a day and their standard daily portion of dry food. Both our cats coats are really shiny to the point the vet comments on it every time they go in for a check up.

What I personally do is halve the meat (use 2x Jimbo's containers) - and freeze one. That way once the first container is nearly empty I thaw the second one in the fridge and feed them that so they've got "fresh" meat. One of our cats, Pixel, is rather fussy when it comes to meat nearing the expiry (it must start to smell a bit more) and was an easy solution around that. You're totally fine to freeze Jimbo's as-is in the container and thaw it out in the fridge a few days before you're about to use it - if my fussy cat doesn't mind then yours won't either :)

Also @Rikkitic my partner is a Vegetarian too and often jokes about feeding the cats raw meat but at the same time absolutely hates vegetarian / vegan people who refuse to give their cats the diet they need (this is a thing believe it or not even here in NZ - she has many horror stories from her time working at the SPCA) so seriously kudos for giving your cats fresh meat.

Some breeders sell meat that they buy in bulk which we sometimes get. Comes in frozen cube and no preservatives. But normal human meat can be as cheap, if not cheaper than the punnets of cat meat. We sometimes boil up a chicken for them, or give them chicken breasts.

We used to have a cat that ate almost anything, was always jumping on the benchtop, opened the fridge to steal food, and opened cupboards and drawers. Tonkinese, so very dog like, so we had to put child locks on everything. But our new cats don't do any of this, and are more picky eaters.

Raw Essentials and Animates sell frozen pet meats in bags of discs or cubes.
All sorts of meats and offal.
I was advised to mix the meats so cats get a balanced nutrient intake. Hence adding offal to the pure meats.

Also advised to limit the meats that have ground bones as too much calcium can cause digestive issues if the cats are not used to wild meats.

I interchanged wet cat food and the meats.

Can raw meat be safely frozen? Even for cats?

The cats of my childhood were fed this way. Having come from a farm they did not want canned food. My mother used to get meat from the butcher (it may have been chuck steak). It was chopped up and frozen off in single servings. The cats were fed once per day and after feeding the next day’s meal had to be removed from the freezer and stored in the fridge to thaw in time for the next day.

My mother would buy horse meat from the butcher - it came in 1kg chunks from memory. It was my job to cut it up into small chunks that the cats would be fed. I remember it being easiest to do when still slightly frozen as I could make even cubes of it.

Human beings are omnivores, which means we have a choice in what we eat. Cats are carnivores and do not have that choice. Trying to force a cat to survive on a vegetarian diet is abuse. People that stupid should not be allowed to have an animal.

Ha! I remember quite a few years ago a restaurant opening in Hamilton, and it's claim to fame was the "first restaurant to serve horse meat in NZ" Working in Waiouru at the time, I recall thinking "bollocks, the mess here has been serving that for years!"

Yeah - they paid out bounty on the collected tails. I doubt they ended up on the menu at Bellamy's, even if serving them up meets the statements about being local, sustainable, and ethical - as claimed by the present operator.
