I've seen these 'fly-trap' plants. Silly question, but are they really effective at trapping flies? Do they 'eat' the flies?

They're about as adept at catching flies as these guys are at catching rabbits. No idea how they ever survive in the wild when they're not manually fed flies every few days. And they "eat", in the sense of dissolve, the flies so they end up being consumed.
