Quidam: My tutor at Polytech (back in the days when they taught COBOL! -yes I'm a officially an old bastard) often said that Programming was not about intelligence. It was about a way of thinking logically. Some people "think" in a certain way that makes them very capable coders.
Over the years, I'd have to say I agree with him. I've met people who I think are considerably brighter than me who could not code nearly as well.
Yes indeed. Our brains are all geared slightly differently, and suited better to certain tasks.
I loved all those lines of code that made no sense to outsiders. Joining all the dots and remembering what links to what, what affects what etc. I think it's geared my brain up for being a graphic designer now.
Would have been fun to go down the programming road but I'm happy in the niche I've fallen into. I remember back in the 90's, learning Macromedia Director very briefly, before everything was all click & drag, there was heaps of coding going on... I almost enjoyed problems, there was something satisfying about investigating what's missing and finding that needle in the haystack and getting things going smoothly. Even if it was stressful!
I couldn't begin to list my old favourite C64 games!!!
