Really takes the bull by the horns eh!?  No heavy-handed security confiscating your cameras... and you build a stronger link between the band and the fans.

Metallica did a similar thing in the 1990's to stop people recording gigs then hawking them off for $50. They gave them the tapers-pit, with the hope that it would drive bootleg prices down.

I'm starting to think NIN are doing it just to stick it to the labels - I mean they just released 400GB of HD raw footage on torrent sites for people to mix together however they want.

Yep Trent has been very vocal about his disdain for the music big-wigs. And rightfully so, they're so out of touch with music that all they care about is numbers... and now it's biting them on the behind... maybe, just maybe, record sales are down not because of piracy, or a global recession, but a genuine and notable drop in quality.
