Lots of great bands already in the thread, although a lot of it pretty old.  My sweet spot is late 80's, early 90's indie/alt and seem to struggle myself to find new music that I like as much.

However, check out Wednesday.  Fairly new US alt band, female singer.  They recently played Wellington and Auckland and I got along.  Very impressive.  Start with tracks 'Quarry' and 'Chosen to Deserve'.

I'm a geek, a gamer, a dad, a Quic user, and an IT Professional. I have a full rack home lab, size 15 feet, an epic beard and Asperger's. Well GZ you have def come through over the last few days!

Thanks for all the recommendations and new artists to listen to, loving this.

The "Geekzone Music list" (very original name I know) is almost at 100 songs. Just over 7hrs of music. That will give me some new stuff for a day or two.

I don't think there is anything suggested that I would personally call mainstream, I know what's mainstream to me may not be to you and vice versa.

Keen to keep getting more different and unknown artists. If you find or think of any, drop them in here, I will keep updating this playlist too.

I hope you enjoy Wilco and Yo La Tengo. I am not a Spotify user but could see your playlist but not add to it.

Could I suggest you add:

Wilco - A Shot In The Arm - a very dark song with a very pop sound 0 quite disconcerting

Yo La Tengo - Pablo and Andrea - the guitar work is perfection.

SepticSceptic: Considering I find very little entertainment in commercial music radio stations music, my picks are:

Savatage / Trans Siberian Orchestra - Symphony Rock music
1200 micrograms - psychedelic beats. Kinda like disco on speed
John Digweed - groovy tunes.

I do enjoy early and contemporary rock, etc music, but not when it's infested by adverts and chatty dweeb.

Savatage started out as more power metal, starting dabbling with symphony elements on Gutter Ballet in 1989.

Sadly the original guitarist was killed by a drunk driver in 93.

Gutter Ballet and Streets: A Rock Opera are my favourites, wasn't so keen after original singer Jon stood down.

Yeah, big YLT fan too.  Personal favourite is 'Nowhere Near' from the 'Painful' album.  Possibly not their most accessible song though.  Painful's a great record.

Quite like Wilco too. 'Yankee Hotel Foxtrot' a great record too.
