Just received.
The Market was a cool concept but I have no idea why they didn't just run it from a warehouse like MightyApe/Amazon etc.. It was wild to order $50 of stuff with free shipping and have it come from 4 retailers and get 7 packages from different stores from across NZ.. Throw in the free MarketClub+ Voda membership that could be claimed with a $2 prepay SIM with no active plan which many people took up and you are losing millions. The crazy referral offer($20 for a first referral iirc) which many people would take advantage of for years for additional savings. The early mistakes with promo codes(ie 10% off with no exceptions like PS5/Xbox etc where the margin meant some high value redemptions were a money loser).
Even today we buy cheap crafting supplies etc from The Warehouse and an order of 20 items comes from 3-4 stores usually which means they make no money on such an order with the flat shipping fee charged.

kmart do the same, but limit you to being able to order things that their system says should all be in stock at the same place. Its just an ongoing problem with NZ retailers halfassed efforts.

Often in the past when we have ordered through them, they have cancelled the order due to no stock, even though it said there was stock online.
^^Yep I don't shop at Kmart online because I know more often than not I'm getting 20% of my items cancelled and being disappointed.

I will add things that I don't really need but want to get the the free shipping threshold and hope that they get canceled. About 50/50 on that so far.
I think the problem with places like the Warehouse, is that they are never satisfied with what they have. TWH had an established position and a market niche and it was pretty successful, but they diversified and kept expanding, and ultimately, what made them succesful was diluted. I'd suggest their leadership team no longer understands the 'why'. It was never really a place I shopped, but in my view, doing what they were doing better, would have been a smarter decision than doing what they did 'more'. I also am not happy with companies who made questionable decisions around their COVID payments.
I don't see them falling over, but I can see them resetting and going back to the original concept a bit.

I guess its because the staff can't find anything in the store either.
I suppose there are 100K or 100'sK NZers who came back for SARS2 who boosted demand for everything.
Needing all the stuff to set up a temporary home.
Now going back to their real homes once the land a job back there.
Add this to the Global economic slowdown as most have been having to run tighter controls on economy to pull back on inflation.
Tide goes out and you face stakeholders used to more profit growth?
Seasonal workers mainly send money home, not buying all the stuff to set up home etc.
Backpackers its just essentials and saving up for their next trip to somewhere more exotic.
So not going to be much of an economic driver, beyond food, fuel, basic accommodation/station wagon.
People who have been earning good money in UK, EU, and other places as Ex pats a different matter.

I wonder if Temu has had an impact? Most of the smaller (non-food) items you can get from The Warehouse you can get on Temu and cheaper. Temu is slowly sucking people in, starting with minimum orders of $20 and now $35. So you add stuff to the cart you don't really need to get to that level.
Everything I have looked at on temu has had a better deal on aliexpress if you actually looked for it. The aliexpress sort by price on your search thing being broken, and the inability for it to load links when clicked from google sponsored results makes it hard to find them tho.

Not always the case, but yes it is often the case, and Temu don't have the same selection. But AliExpress charge for shipping on top of the price, so can often end up more expensive. Plus often a far longer wait time.
