I am a Pak n Sav sticky club member.
I went to PaknSav tonight and was given a leaflet about the Club+

Scanned the QR code and used my current email address for Sticky Club, and received a confirmation code , then asked for a 12 digit pin and managed to register OK.

Opted for the $ rewards

So basically like Woolworth + Everyday rewards you have to dick around in an app every time you shop to get the best prices (with "boosts" and spend $100 and get 1000 points etc), annoying but I'm surprised it took this long for them to copy the idea to be honest.

Many people won't bother and will pay the higher prices, as people won't now have a choice but to shop at supermarkets that have these reward schemes in place in order to get the club discounts. I do wonder if the governments / Reserve Banks inflation calculations take into consideration the discounted prices based on using these rewards cards or not. I remember back when we had 3 big players, and some of them would price match competitors. That price matching still seems common in the UK where they have more competition.

Nah bugger that. I barely ever shop at Woolworths as it's generally out of my way, but occasionally I'll stop by the one near Christchurch airport.

After they ditched the anonymous plastic OneCards and made the app download & account registration compulsory, I downloaded the app just long enough to create an account using a fake name, burner email address etc. Got issued an Everyday Rewards barcode, screenshot it, saved it to my phone in it's own album, then deleted the rewards account and uninstalled the app from my phone. Now I scan the photo of the barcode whenever I do buy something on special from Woolworths, and they are welcome to attribute the purchase to a ghost whose profile states is a 100 year old Mexican woman...

We are kindred spirits. From the second you drive onto the carpark, until the second you leave, you are getting ripped off and tracked in almost every way imaginable at supermarkets. Why make it easy for them?

So long as this results in them stopping printing a worthless to me fuel discount voucher on each shop at new world, I call it a win.

in the South Island, both the self checkout and the real checkout ask “would you like your receipts”.

so if the answer is no, they don’t print.

but, I think if you want the receipt, the fuel voucher then prints.

next time I’m at the checkout, I’ll ask the person if they can give the receipt but not the fuel voucher….

Wonder if it will be like some other apps where the barcode is dynamic so you need to open the app every single time you shop.

Price matching from companies (e.g. mitre10 and bunnings) are actually anti-competitive practices. They tell the competition "don't you dare have cheaper prices, if you do, I'll beat you". If they didn't have a price match policy, companies like bunnings etc would have lower prices

Based on the Stuff article posted yesterday (18 May) you'll still get paper fuel vouchers if requested. I read somewhere recently Foodstuffs (possibly just North Island?) have started not automatically printing receipts/fuel vouchers. The self checkouts at my local PaknSave certainly have hastily printed signs blutacked to the terminals saying you must press yes for receipt AND fuel voucher. I found if you select nothing (while putting stuff in bags off scale) it no longer automatically prints anything by default.

Stuff asked Foodstuffs if the fuel discounts will remain for casual shoppers or if Club+ membership will be required.

Customers will continue to receive fuel discounts under the new Club+ programme, a Foodstuffs spokesperson said.

“If a customer doesn’t scan Club+, they’ll continue to receive a printed paper fuel voucher at checkout, except at South Island Pak’nSave stores with their own fuel stations,” they said.

If a customer scans Club+, their fuel discount will be loaded directly to their card or app for use at participating fuel sites.

Yep. A staff member at my local New World said something like "as soon as the Eftpos terminal says Accepted, you can just walk away".

Technically I think you could do it anyway, as I believe the moment money has changed hands (i.e. "Accepted" has appeared) then the transaction is complete and the goods are yours. Usually I would hang around and press No, and I'd even occasionally put the voucher in the bin, but sometimes I'd just walk away anyway.
