Con: Dear all,

Thanks for all of the feedback.
From the forum, consumer NZ and various website feedback and a visit to Godfreys I have found the following. ( Godfreys do not stock Dyson )

+ Dyson is either great or zero, depending on user and subjective.
+ The new vacuums with powered spinning heads are definitely better. Some you can and can't touch while in operation.Obviously the heads you can't touch are better.
+ It's not about the wattage, but the head design.
+ Miele are far more dependable and generally have great suction.
+ Hoover have poor dependablitiy.
+ Bagged or Bagless cost similar.Bagless need HEPA filters. Some filters are washable-economy plus.
+ We are going to purchase a steam hard floor cleaner also. No mops !
+ The consumer NZ review is becoming dated.

We will probably purchase Hoover Core Plus. Demo vs others was awesome.

Cheers

Sounds like you have been through a hard sell  job from a vacuum sales man. You say you may get the hoover, yet you say they have poor dependabilty, that doesn't make sense. I believe hoover is also a house brand.

No hard sell. But behavior was replicated at three stores.
Dependability can vary. Performance most important for us.

If you want a good vac that's suitable for domestic and commercial markets.... get a Pac Vac Superpro 700.

Hoover is a well known US brand.  It's so well known in the UK, that it has become synonymous with vacuum cleaners.  Never heard the expression "doin' the hooverin'"?

We bought a Hoover with power head from Godfreys over 5 years ago and it still goes great even though we tried to kill it with brick dust. Laughing

Correct Hoover may be a house brand , as other outlets do not stock it !!
Dyson certainly has a revolutionary system...

Yes, but Godfrays own the brands Hoover and Wertheim  in Australia, so it is a house brand. See this page

I don't know if the Hoover core bagless system is much different to the dyson system. The dyson ones certainly look different.
I think the warehouse used to stock hoover, but not sure if they were the US/UK models or the aus models.

Get a back pack vacuum. Makes the work easier. I sand floors and will vac a floor about 6 times during the job.

Also get rid rid of your grotty carpet and look in yellow pages and get floors sanded and coated. Polished floors best value flooring option available.

Who the hell wants to lug around a vacuum cleaner on their bag from domestic use. Sure it's fine for commercial use, but not domestic. Not everyone has floorboards, most new houses are on concrete slabs, or particle/plywood.

Consumer recommends Nilfisk and Miele, and recently said it doesn't recommend bagless models any more. I got a Nilfisk (standard head as I have no pets) and it works well.

Just got a dyson off trademe, a DC07. Turns out our floor was really messy cause the dyson sucked up heaps of crap the other one didn't.

goto library checkout consumer magazines review of vacumn cleaners and buy one from there.

Nilfisk Coupe Parquet $150 is quite good if you want a lower priced (but very good) compact vacumn cleaner that uses bags.

PS. Rotating heads/scrubbers will wear out your carpet a lot faster.

We got a Wertheim from Godfreys, with a bagless system and power head.

Man, that thing picks up everything!
