Yeah i'm curious aboubt that "fuel", I still have somewhere a weird cell thing that creates electricity from heat designed to go in a satellite. I think it's a massive peltier. (it's not a REAL one, one a mate made but it does work!)

Maybe satellites create some gas from solarpower,,, but how!

I'm sitting in a chatroom on a NZ/AU satellite chat site, some in there seem to think the service will be down overnight and sky will make an announcment when the sharemarket opens, if the bird is a write-off can likely bet that share trading in skytv will be suspended

Well I hope for Sky's sake that they have a contingency plan. Surely they must. They have known about B1's Primary SCP for like a year now.

Will be funny if they don't tho.

I read somewhere that they can use some space on the "pretty full" Optus C1, not sure how legit that info is tho

EDIT: just remembered, its in one of the other posts in this thread, lol

"Thruster with a size of a matchstick performs these manoeuvres. Fuel spent during these manoeuvres defines satellite lifetime. Turksat generation satellites has around 900 Kg fuel and satellite itself is around 800 Kg. This fuel finishes within around 12-13 years. Before to finish the last remaining fuel, another special manoeuvre is performed to throw the satellite toward deep space (waste box) from this critical geostationary orbit (36,000 Km from earth surface)."

"we hope to have it fixed by midnight" could be interpreted as really meaning "go to bed - we'll talk about it in the morning".

Not having a contingency plan would be like living in the 9th Ward of New Orleans and not having flood insurance... Frown
