About the Elto meter - just curious - if you open the microwave door so the internal microwave light turns on - does the power reading drop?

If it is reading bad due to a complex load, then adding a simple resistive load to the load might settle the measurement down a bit. Still won't be accurate but it will be an interesting pointer to the problem...

Just got a panasonic inverter microwave based on the info above so thanks.

Seems guts of it is there is more electronics to go wrong but the results are better. Figure with consumer guarantees act I'll opt for that option rather than a basic but inherently more reliable model. My last one was basic but still failed anyway...

If you are interested, the 3 cell elto meters were reduced to clear that the warehouse near here for $15 or so. Not the best of day for me to buy things so I hope there are still some in stock on friday.

Have checked. With light off, 69W With the light on 79W. In both cases power factor is shown as 100.
