I have better memories of the sensational women in Finland rather then the cellphones! :-)

You go all the way to Finland and don't watch the ice hockey? You.... you...

NORMAL PERSON!

:)

I tripped around Scandinavia in the middle of summer, wasn't a lot of ice hockey being played. The only ice hockey game I have made it to was the Oilers vs Flames when I was in Calgary. I wanted to watch Gretzky play for the Rangers but missed their away game by a week which annoyed me. One of the things that amazed me was how patriotic the fans are, NZ rugby or English football is nothing compared to what I experienced!

bradstewart: Remember the days of Selanne and Kariya?

You mean their disastrous days playing for Colorado? (Or not playing very well at all, if you like). Ugh.

Was meaning the days when they both played for anaheim before they stupidly traded Selanne to San Jose.

It has really surprised me how well edmonton have played these playoffs.
For three seasons in a row now Detroits high powered offense has been shut down by an average goalie that turns into a damn brock wall. in 2003 it was J.S Gigeure for Anaheim, 2004 Mikka Kiprusof for Calgary and this year Dwayne Roloson.

Sadly Manny Legace played very averagely for Det after a very stellar season. Had only 6 less wins that Martin Broduer but started 23 less games. Wasnt even a contender for the Vezina trophy.

Seems to be the story of the NHL, the best goalies who have amazing seasons, play over 70 really good games fail to fire during the playoffs.

After being dumped out like that, i think there could be some big changes coming in Detroit. Yzerman looks likely to retire, which will be a huge blow. Chelios and Shanahan are both unrestricted fre agents and probably wont be made offers. I would say they will rebuild the team round the likes of Datsyuk, Zetterburg, Kronwall, Franzen, Samuelson. I would think Nik Lidstrom would the front runner for the captaincy.

The Czechs were clearly very lucky to get to the finals but Canada... shut-out and Finland whacked in five goals!

Hockey's a lot more competitive and amusing than it used to be, that's for sure.

Shame there's no NZ team.

Not to diss the finns, but totally disgusting result from the Canadians. No reason for them not to go out and win every game by a large margin.

Shame there's no NZ team.

There surely is, the New Zealand Ice Blacks. They just got relegated to division 3, the division 2 world champs were held in Auckland at the start of April.

We also have a very good regional competition with two Auckland teams and one from canterbury and one from Otago

Yeah... Canada really flopped. Surprised how badly the US did as well, ditto the Russkies.

Lots of surprises there.

and more surprises here lol. There are at least 2 in auck, 1 in Dunedin, Christchurch, Queenstown, Alexandra and Naseby.

There are a few thousand players and a very high level of skill and competition.

Are any of those teams called Hurricanes, Bulls or Crusaders?

Thats right it is. You will find a number of threads tend to go off topic round here as things get discussed and sent off in random directions.
