I read yesterday that Telecom ( at least as of late yesterday afternoon) had received no notifications, don't know about the other ISP's. Maybe there won't be the huge rush after all?

Maybe rights holders are going to be silent for a few months and build up large lists of infringers so they can issue notices to all of them in one fell swoop?

I read the same as well, but for the life of me can't recall where it was.

Snap Internet: We have been receiving these notices for quite awhile now, before the bill was even passed. We have received a few today. It's hard to say how many we will have to send this month but hopefully not too much! :)

Common sense is not as common as you think.

well just found out today that a friend at school got his first notice... downloaded the last 2% on a download of Microsoft office 2010 LOL!

im hoping to get a copy of the notice tomorrow :D have to see it first hand.... well done Microsoft you made my day ... if not the whole week xD

Interesting:

Our advice, based on MED guidelines, has been to reply with a request for the following;

- Local contact details, including postal address, name and financial institution of the copyright holder.
- Payment of $25 per claimed infringement before we will action their claim by notifying the end user.

To date, with a handful of notices sent to us and the above reply given, we have not received a single reply.

Sounds more like a phishing scam to me.

Only believe it if the friend got the notice from their ISP.

It will be fascinating to see what Copyright Holders go after. I mean are they really going to want to have a go at someone who downloads an episode of a TV programme that isn't shown here?

Or whatabout a popular TV in the States like Fringe, which TVNZ sticks on at 1030pm.

I guess it's only illegal if someone complains about it.

I'd tend to think that it will be recently released movies, albums and software that is likely to be targeted. And that older movies, older music and TV in general won't be top of their list.

Or maybe I'm wrong and first infringment notice might be for 1985's Teen Wolf, 1988's Tone Loc's CD 'Lo-ced After Dark or 1981's Series 1 of the Smurfs...

Who knows.

Well yes - it would be nice to know how they track. Presumably they (or their monitors) actually have to look for a list of torrent sources and download/seed and track the IP addresses. I would guess that they cant look for 'everything', so its probably most effective to go after the 'new release' stuff - movies that are still screening and TV shows that have only aired on their native networks. I guess if that is the case then if you must download - keep to the older/offbeat/non mainstream stuff or you might get pinged.

But sorry - the 'justification' in the post above is just wrong. We all know its illegal. Don't try and kid yourself. And if you speed - thats illegal whether anyone sees or not.

Oh yeah - the original poster - I gather from a few posts on the 3strikes forum that ISPs are getting notices, but so far none are in the format required by the NZ law - one guy said his place was just binning them until the copyright notices complied - so who knows when that will happen. Possibly not worth the overseas companies even bothering to change their process or maybe they didnt even know about our legal requirements down here in little ol' NZ.
