gregmcc: I got my wife a Sony ICFCL75IPICFCL75IP

A great unit, only niggling problem is that it occasonally locks up (just like a computer) and requires a power off althought the battery backup keeps the time etc it usually locks up during the night and guess what.....no alarm

I have got one of those too, bought it when I had a iPod. The locking up issue was fixed in the latest firmware update.

Many of the mini/micro stereo systems have built in alarm function:

I've seen these mp3 alarm clocks pop up on sella and trademe from time to time. Never seen them selling in physical store but they might be around somewhere.
