I find the mass public mourning slightly odd, it's almost like the US is wanting it's own Diana moment.

It's always sad when someone dies, but outpouring of grief when you didn't actually know the guy, well, there's not really any need for it.

Well I can sort of understand it, it's like when MJ died, as much as it pains me to say it, he was probably as big of an impact to computing as MJ was to music.

I know very little about the history of Steve Jobs and Apple, I found this TIME article to be a very interesting read.

Steve Jobs was a great marketer, and a perfectionist. However he wasn't an inventor, as all the products he perfected were already products that existed, he just made people 'want' them, and perfected them so they were cool. Form what I have heard, he was a very tough person to work for.

Design is a blend of form and function.

The best design is also desirable and attracts people to it, and people like design to remain fresh.

That is one reason why many people were disappointed with the new iphone. It is still the same excellent design, with heaps of new features, but its case design is so last year. If it was just put in a new case, I am sure it would have been better received, and that is purely aesthetics.

Stuff.co.nz jumped me in wellington on Thursday camera and all and asked me about Steve's death. I was half asleep with not much to say so didn't think they would put it on. But of course there i was in the lead article a few hours later. Not cool

But Jon capitalism / consumerism IS the U.S.A's religion of choice, and if Jobs isnt their God then he is definitely their Pope...

Sickening.. Far more worthy people die every day without recognition than Steve "sell it like its hot" Jobs..

The story is short on detail, but if it is correct, it is very tragic.

The passing of any life is a sad occasion.
While I respect his inventions, and agree he and his company achieved something quite remarkable from a business perspective, I will sadly remember him as one of the driving forces behind every second teenager in my town walking out in front of my car, because they have those blasted earbuds jammed into their ears, and are too immersed in their synthetic world to take enough care in their real one.

  To summarise
Yes, I'm over 40
Sad about Steve
Silly Teenagers.
