gzt: The rugby stuff is generally good natured on both sides. But, on the other side of the Tasman they also have the the "Kiwis are stealing our jobs" thing, with everything that kind of thinking implies.

I lived in Australia for 12 years, and never got hassled for that. I was, however, hassled daily about being a "sheep shagger". I always found the logic used to come to that conclusion to be a bit suspect. Australians see New Zealand as a country with 4 million people and 70 million sheep, and think "With that sort of sheep to people ratio, I bet there's a bit of shagging going on". Says a lot more about them than us, if you ask me. :-)

Thats exactly how I see it too, and actually love the relationship both countries have. I've always seen it as a big brother/little brother thing. I think any staunch Anti-Aussie Kiwis should go spend a decent amount of time over there, and then they'll realise just how similar our two cultures are.

There are more cows than people. And the growth of the numbers of cows is greater than that of people.

But I would still expect there to be more sheep than cows, due to the stocking amounts being highly different.

Certainly sounds like natural stupidity to me!

But seriously, I wouldn't want some of the ozzy problems they have created over there, our own problems are quite enough thanks. And why not take ourselves seriously (and sometimes sarcastically)? Gets the job done and pisses off a few ozzy's in one shot. No need for their definition of humour, we have a more low key version of our own.

Time to find a new industry!

Very obviously written with tongue firmly in cheek. I found it generally amusing, and parts of it hilarious. I've no doubt the people at Stuff thought pretty much the same and decided to lighten their readerships day with it.

It does make sense for Auz to take over NZ - but only as a refuge for the day when a highly populated country that has the 8th largest navy in the world decides to go shopping for resources close to home.

I do know there are 70 million possums, which are pests from Ozzie. They can have them back. Don't know where they all are, but probably doing out native bush and birds/insects no good.

It's not a good article, true.

Thing is, it's an opinion piece written at stuff.co.nz and obviously a bit of tongue in cheek.

I personally don't allow my blood to boil over such pieces.

Firstly, lighten up. It's satire. Not very good satire, granted, but nevertheless the man is not serious and that's obvious.

By the way, this constitution still exists today.

Secondly, the most interesting thing about that is Jervis Bay. Jervis Bay is a naval base, and a national park. The car park of the Jervis Bay national park area is where the Australian nuclear weapons program was to have been based. True story.

Yeah sure there's being sarcastic, which I'm fine with, and then there's also being insipid. He may not have been serious as you said but he knows that his readers will have a much more serious tone on the matter. That one's not so obvious.
