I guess there might be delays as we approach the Christmas break.

BTW, my certificate was printed on Friday and it arrived today. Though I was told it would take 3-4 weeks to arrive but got it in one business day.

An overview of the timeline so far

10th Dec 2020 - Applied online in Wellington

20th October 2021 - Asked to confirm the personal details

2nd November 2021 - Application got approved

26th November 2021 - Certificate printed

29th November 2021 - Received the certificate.

Have applied for the passport today. I will update once I get any updates.

Received the passport yesterday. Guess it takes 10-12 working days for a standard application.

Awesome, have a great Christmas as a New Zealand Citizen. Let's hope 2022 is a good one for us all.

I'd like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Happy Christmas and an more importantly a very Happy 2022. 🥂 (It can't be any worse than this one!)

Congratulations to all those who gained their Citizenship during 2021 and for all your help and advice. For those still waiting, I wish you well in your journey.

It's been a long frustrating wait, but now we've finally been approved, it's all been worth it.

I just rang up DIA for my cert number and they said it hasnMt been printed out due to a backlog! They said probably end of Dec or early Jan! I need to apply for my passport as I have travel plans end of Jan!

You don't need certificate number to apply for passport , my friend applied without it and got passport already. Just make sure the date your citizenship become effective on DIA system , usually it is day they told it will get printed on, you can check with DIA or you can check with immigration if you resident visa not valid anymore this mean your citizenship is effective

You don't need certificate number to apply for passport , my friend applied without it and got passport already. That's the problem... It hasn't been printed. Also, when u apply for the passport online, you have to put in the citizenship number, if not it doesn't allow you to progress. How did your friend work around this?

I rang this morning for my certificate number and they told me that the print date given is not necessarily the date it's printed!! They all seem to say different things.

Can't you use your existing passport for your travels at the end of January?

Sorry but when you apply for your passport it doesn’t require you to put your citizenship number. It’s an optional field. You can leave it blank 100%.

Try to give them a call one more time you’ll definitely have your number. I did the same. They said “not available” first time I called but got it the second time. It depends who you talking to 😁

oh that's good to know.. The lady I spoke to was really helpful actually, she said just ring us the moment you get an email saying cert has been dispatched.

with regards to the passport, it does ask for ID verification. How did you guys do it without a NZ document of some sort?

I had an activated RealMe ID already that’s why preferred to do it online. If you wanted to travel sooner you can opt for an urgent service($382). Time frame is 3 days but ask them you’ll pick it up from DIA office personally( Don’t rely on courier)

Once your citizenship is granted(Certificate Print Date) your permanent resident visa with Immigration is canceled. So you cannot travel on your overseas passport.

it was not when my friend applied , it was optional

so anybody else just applied without receiving their Citizenship cert? also, do we need to then get an authorized photographer to take the pic?
