is it coming from the HDD or the power adapter?

Mine sometimes makes this when it's charging, but then stops, mines only a quiet buzzing though.

Also for the question about max graphics memory, i think with 2gb installed it defaults to 128, what is it showing at now? 128 is the max for the GMA950 graphics unfortunately.  You can still play older games on it, i have:

- the first 5 Need For Speeds
- Counterstrike, Half life
- GTA3 + San Andreas
- SWAT4

I think it's the HDD, but I'm not sure.

Oh yeah, that was mentioned a few pages back, it's some Seagate quiet utility which stops the HDD heads and restarts them.  There is a program mentioned too, I don't have it on mine, I upgraded mine straight to a 7200rpm 320gb seagate and I don't get that issue :s

After browsing the web it looks like there is a bigger 6 cell battery available, a 63Whr battery. A 30% increase in battery life might be worth a look.

looks like they are available for about US$75

Interesting. I found a link yesterday which suggested you could assign up to 256MB to the 945GSE/GMA950 combination, but I'm buggered if I can find it again now. I intend putting 2GB of RAM into mine, so would like to make 256 available to the graphics side of things if it is possible.

I noticed that there is no seperate hatch to get access to the HDD, did you remove the whole back panel to upgrade the HDD? I am thinking of upgrading mine.

I remember reading somewhere that you can get access to the HDD from under the keyboard, through the top that way and not underneath. That's right, I was watching a youtube video about adding a touch screen mod to the asus netbook and it showed them pulling pretty much the entire laptop to pieces so they could hide the touch sensor controller right at the bottom. Anyone thinking of putting in a touch screen to theirs?

I'm waiting for a email from CHCH also... the joys of being in the south island. I expected to wake up and have an email from them in my inbox as apparently Nelson customers are getting theirs today. But nothing yet.

Any idea how to get into the bios? When i first turned it on i had a bios splash etc, but now no matter whether i hammer f10/f9/delete repeatedly, it always starts XP very very quickly from power entirely off

I noticed on mine that when I first went into the BIOS there was the option of Boot Booster (or something like that) and it was enabled.
After I had installed XP Pro I went into the BIOS again to check something and noticed that option has now dissappeared??
Can someone please tell me where it actually is in case I am just blind!

Did you format the drive or just a partition before installing XP Pro? I think the Boot Booster "feature" was on one of the partitions. I lost Boot Booster when I wiped the drive to install Windows 7 Pro. From memory it was under the Boot tab on the BIOS.

Just the usual advantages between XP Home and XP Pro. Depends on your needs I guess.
