SomeoneSomewhere: Gibfixers won't cut circular holes.

Is that a union thing?  Health and safety?  St.Gib, the patron saint, preached against it, "all holes shall be square, round holes are the work of the devil"?

Is it possible to find a single vet practice in NZ these days, or at least one in which customers only have to deal with a single vet? Everything seems to be vet clinics now and the vet you get is the one who happens to be available when you show up for your appointment. For me most times it is someone completely different from the last one.

Where I come from, I am used to single vet practices where customers can build up a long-term relationship with the vet who knows them and their animals. Just like your doctor. Just like Bondi Vet. I have no complaints about the quality of the vets I see, but they are all different and I always have the feeling I have to start over with them. I would like to have one vet who knows me and my pets and who knows their history from more than just notes on a card.

Is there any vet in the Hastings area like this? Can anyone tell me how to find one without having to ring every practice in the region?

Gibfixers generally work by sight, not by plan.

If there's something that obviously needs a hole cut, e.g. a flush box, they cut it out, hopefully at the right size and in the right place.

If there's something that's poking through the wall, like a cable or wingback, they'll cut a hole of minimum size around it

If it's not one of those, it'll be gibbed over.

How do you expect them to know what size cutout your thing needs, and exactly where you want it?

The sparky comes back with a laser level or plumbob to mark the exact location and a hole saw of the appropriate size to cut it.

Even architectural plans are usually useless for laying out downlights.

In the UK, apparently even sockets and switches won't be cut out.

The Gib boys aren't exactly known for being the sharpest tools in the shed. I've been on a site where they gibbed and stopped around the builders supply running through the middle of the room (floor to ceiling). There are very few f'ks given.

Well, not everybody's into trance but that doesn't mean you should call them idiots.

Thought that was a little harsh IMO. Gib guys I know are pretty much builders!

it always has been

if you were to play the final of any major international sport* in NZ where would it be played?

*that requires a stadium, not an indoor arena or what ever

Yes I understand the function, but I've just recently noticed the branding as "New Zealand's National Stadium". Have they just started using that branding, or have I just not been particularly observant?

It's been part of the branding for ages. Maybe since it's in Seymour's electorate someone is having some fun.

My comment was tongue-in-cheek, the Gib Boys are a trance group.

When I was doing some work for a large French company I was a bit startled to see one of their meeting rooms labelled "Eden Park", until I saw the others were also named after sports grounds.  They certainly seemed to know what the national stadium was.

Where can I walk in and buy one of those doublesided dishwasher magnet indicators or the other type sliding indicator thing?

Edit: If I can bear to part with $14.95 for a double sided magnet Nood might be the winner. That is going to be difficult. Save me!

We bought ours in Mitre 10 in the kitchen knick-knacks section.

An online catalogue search drew a blank though.

I never knew this was a thing until now... are they even worth the effort of having to remember to flip them every single time you use the dishwasher, vs. just looking inside on the rare occasion that you need to check?
