He mentioned turbo, mps, fast, so i just put it all together and if you've driven a mazda mps the swift wil appear stationary for some unknown reason

Yeah, as I said. The swift is just too small. We want enough space for car seats, groceries, wetsuits, bike parts e.t.c. And enough grunt to be able to tow a trailer, carry boards/bikes on the roof. The Swift just doesn't fit the bill, even if it's a nice small car.

Sounds like a Mazda 3 doesnt either?

Have you thought about the 3.0 litre subaru outback 6 speed manual?

Very reliable and a good car when looked after!

Yeah not sure the MPS is a good choice for towing. If you want to tow more than very occasionally, I'd go for a larger car with 3L+ 6cyl engine.

The 2.3 will tow just fine unless you're trying to tow a boat or caravan or something infact it probably has more torque than say a v6 holden so would tow those fine too. It will just be on boost pretty much the whole time so super thirsty.

If we are just talking bicycles then the MPS will be fine. Motorbikes would be a different story.

the yet to be sold brand new mazda 6 diesel with 450ish Nm torque at around 1700 rpm weighing 1450 ish kg ... but it'll probably set you back around 35-40 grand ... but it looks like a cross breed between aston martin and merc and sips fuel at reportedly under 4L/100ks .... that'll tow your house!

How about something like a current model RAV4. Quite powerful but reasonably economical for size, and good for towing I have heard. Also heaps of space, and being a japanese made toyota,very reliable. Also it comes in manual, which is becoming more rare with this type of vehicle. If you buy the ltd, it also has a built in roof rack. Sounds like this sort of vehicle is more what you are after from what you have said. Supposedly there is a new model coming out soon too.

My advice is if you are going to spend 20K get something fun! My partner and I bought our first expensive car last year and we love it. We got a 05 Subaru Legacy 3.0R spec B, it is a very comfortable long distance car but at the same time is very quick and the sports extras make it handle very well.

Remember a car is the second biggest investment most people make so you might as well get the right shape, colour, features and interior to suit. Not point buying something you are not full happy with as you will regret it.

+1 this is the main reason I went with an Audi, always wanted to drive 4 circles.

but yes - turbo subarus and v6 subarus especially!

but nowhere near audi dollars ... just saw an RS4 advertised for 65g done 65ks and last service was 14grand ($%^%!!!) ... the owner wants to buy an R8 ... i thought about offering 50k (which i don't have) but then the prefrontal cortex takes over and i think i'll keep looking for a house :)
