We got a new washing machine for just a little over half price, though I spose the sale was good for us as we were actually after something as opposed to browsing for a deal.

There are some very good deals on ovens and cook tops, which I am in the market to buy. Just depends what you want really.

I wonder if there is a loophole in the fair trading act that allows this? I mean, what would be considered the 'normal' price if the price continues to be rotated on a routine basis like that.

I vaguely remember a retailer (Paper Plus?) being prosecuted for this stunt a couple of years ago.

I was looking at a Klipsch HD500 speaker pack on Thursday, $888. Friday it was $999 and today when I went in it was $845 on sale. I told them that that wasn't really much of a discount from 2 days ago and managed to knock em down to $800. Seems quite deceitful to me.

What about the Veon TVs The Warehouse sell? The "normal" prices puts them at the same price if not more of a higher quality brand such as Sony or Panasonic equivalents

You can get good deals any day by asking them for their best cash price. The only difference I think, is that they are putting those lower prices on tickets, but you may get more off those ticket prices if you ask, as I have purchased things at a lower price than their sale price. There are people who don't like asking for discounts, and pay the sticker price.

If I was a retailer, and I was putting on a sale like this, I'd make sure my website was unavailable too...
It's easy enough to write a bit of software to scrape the opposition sites / Pricespy in order to ticket all your items below the opposition...
'Crashing' the site means the opposition have to get off their butt / will be slow to respond, and customers can either call (it's not exactly the end of the world to pick up the phone is it?) or head into the store to see the prices of the things they want. I had a look through some stores today, and the only one that wasn't dead was Hardly Normal's.

Website is working fine now. Yawn...nothing inspiring there for me. I don't think I will waste my time given the responses already.

No doubt they will clean up with all the sales-addicts snapping up fake deals.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

On-line pricing is one thing, it's the price you get in-store that matters.

You can't haggle on a website... you can do your research and get a shortlist, but really, if I was buying a flat panel TV, speakers etc, I'd be ALL about demo'ing video and audio I'm familiar with, then pulling the trigger only after ensuring I get the best possible deal.
The advertising is to get you into the store, and what will get some people off their butt is different from the next person. Let's face it, "20% off" doesn't work anymore, and TV's only have 20-22% in them anyway, so they have to try something else.

A bit of variance in pricing too between stores.

I popped into the Mt Wellington store on my way home from work this morning and brought some Miele Vacuum bags on special, buy 1 get another free. Popped into the Henderson shop with my wife this afternoon and they didn't have any signage offering the same deal. Deal not shown online either.

We were only after some other small ticket items (under $100) and I noticed the sale price of some items between the 2 stores varied by up to $5.00

If you can't laugh at yourself then you probably shouldn't laugh at others.
