My last Status Credit earn with the BNZ Gold MC was 31 May, so likely the other Golds stopped at the same time.

Actually the letter had an offer to convert to a BNZ Visa Platinum card - the offer may have been tailored to each individual but mine included 3 years of fee waiver so i had nothing to lose by converting and it meant I keep earning status points and the $1 spend to earn Airpoints was a better ratio.

That offer has expired, but no harm in trying the BNZ in this competitive banking environment.

Pretty sure it was tailored - I don't think my letter mentioned that offer (sniff). It just said that status credits were "changing", which at the time I thought was pretty bad marketing spin giving that the body of the letter said that they were getting rid of them, as their research showed that no-one really used them (or some equally weak excuse).

Was the fee waiver just the difference, or was it the entire fee?

Yeah mine certainly didn't. But considering I've hardly touched the card in 2 years, I'm not surprised.

You get all the Star Alliance Gold perks like standby, waitlist, international lounge access, extra checked baggage and carry on etc. You may also get a noise reduction ear phones even when you fly AirNZ, bottle of water and a comfort kit (pillow, slippers etc). One lady was approached on a AirNZ flight to Auckland from Tokyo - she was offered that b/c they said she was a ANA Star Alliance Gold

I'm doing a trip Melbourne to NYC return next month, which is just over 20k miles according to United. I will put in my newly acquired Asiana FF number on the booking and see how many I get.

If the miles are the same, I should get SA silver, and therefore it would take 2x trips return to NYC to get SA gold. Significantly less than it would take on Air NZ!

Yes with asiana its 40,000 but its over 2yr for qualification so. On avg 20,000 per yr.

rayonline: There is also Aegean as well but they do mainly Euro flights but similar ease of qualification.

If you fly a lot within a 12 month period the Aegean seems like the easiest and quickest way to get Star Alliance Gold Card (which is what I would like, for the extra baggage and some additional perks).

20.000 miles is all they ask for. But the look at 12 month periods.

Yep, shows 100% of miles for my class on United. So should get Asiana Gold (Star Alliance Silver) after this trip. Just need to do a second one in the next 2 years to get SA Gold).

Problem is that now that the GCSB has it's sights firmly set on protecting Hollywood from the global security threat posed by movie pirates, they probably need to send their spooks to hang around school cafeterias and bus stops.

full waiver

if you spend enough - ($30k every six months) - then you can get the half yearly fee waived also. I dont think the ANZ card had that provision.
