I thought it was bloody funny, and said so on Twitter and got a couple of replies saying the ad was clearly racist towards Afro-Americans and someone who said the ad was so offensive she was changing to 2Degrees as a direct result...

I mean - really?

I agree - I work in Marketing and think it's brilliant, a polarising ad is always good for brand awareness!

I just read an article on stuff about the ad, it's got seven complaints to the Advertising Standards Authority so far.

Here's the article

People need to lighten up. All I have to say at this point is that Troy is a freaking legend for how he's handling both the serious criticism and blatant douchebaggery on their Facebook page with a lighthearted sense of humour and wit. I'm sure he already earns more than me, and you know what, I'm okay with that because whatever Spark are paying him, it isn't enough.

The ad is great for what they'd be trying to achieve. It's humorous and gets people talking about it. Let's be honest the target demographic for high use/unlimited plans are the younger generation and or gamers so I think they've nailed it.

As for those who have complained about it that's amazing that people want to complain about this and can't take it for the humour intended. As for whether the plan itself will work out for them who knows.

People love to be offended these days. I think it is because they no longer have to worry about keeping the rain off or starving to death. The human mind needs something to focus on and since we have in the western world largely eliminated the immediate threats to survival, why not worry about whether a TV ad is 'offensive'?
