one word - Fonterra

I know someone who works for Fonterra.

They buy milk, cheese etc from the staff shop at massive discount - at least 50% and if you assume that even then Fonterra are making a profit, you can see how much the supermarket duopoly adds to the price.

Last week she bought 12 500g blocks of Mainland Vintage for $10. Not each - $10 for all 12! Presently they retail at $11 each in our local Countdown.....

isn't the staff discount only on older stock nearing expiry/best by date ?

that was the case with fonterra staff buys several years ago.

No; our cheese has 7 months to go. The milk has the same dates as shop milk.

old3eyes: One thing i did notice in AU the other month was no fancy Fontera type milk packaging. Guess the Ozzys aren't as gullible as kiwis. I even saw milk packed in clear plastic bottles. About A$3.20 in the super market for 2 liters.

$3.20? You're buying the expensive brand, or were at a Coles Central. Retail (non-discounted) price on milk is $2 for 2 litres, $1 for 1 litre, or $3 for 3 litres.

If fonterra were really price gouging on milk, someone could easily set up their own bottling plant. And start selling milk for cheaper. In fact there is at least 1 company in NZ that does bottling under contract. So you could probably launch your own milk brand without even needing to own any factories. But the reason no one has done this yet? When the milk price last became a big issue in the media, everyone was complaining about fonterra. Until a dairy owner let slip that his cost price on a 2L bottle of milk was $1.50 (might have actually been $1.95) Either way it proved that the supermarkets were the ones gouging the prices. Not fonterra.

So you can not be a douch bag, and pass on the dairy at reasonable prices? Right?
Otherwise the irony of this thread is too dense. (Complain about the price model, then want to be the one milking the rest of us).

Sorry but I don't understand your post. Are you complaining about me? People who own dairies? Or Complaining about fonterra?

Joker97 started the thread about high dairy prices, and once it was revealed to be the supermarkets fault, joker97 then wants to own the supermarket…..but doesn't specify why.
I'm hoping its because he wants to do the right thing.

Yup. Expensive brand. Woolworths Select milk is $2 for a 2 litre.
