Hi Lurch,

Thanks for your feedback.

We are creating a unique platform. We aren't trying to be like anyone else.

Protecting our members is a very high priority for SellShed.
We have started a community of people who feel safe to interact with one another in their local communities and we are protecting their privacy
By only having a Facebook login for now. We are also making it easy to sign up. Once we add other login methods, we will require a lot of information on the
person which will take some time to fill in.  On SellShed, people will know exactly who they are trading with. No Avatars, no aliases, just real people.

If you have more feedback, we're here to help.

Thanks

This has been asked at least twice and answered both times, but I'm not sure that you're actually answering the question that is being asked. Members want to know why they have to log in simply to LOOK at the listings. Off the top of my head the only reason I can think of is that if sellers are listing contact details so buyers can contact them directly (which seems to be the gist of it) then people who don't login but view the listings could just as easily contact the seller outside of the app/website - is this correct? There would have to be some method in place to ensure potential buyers contact sellers via the app/website first to 'authenticate' their enquiry before proceeding. (Luckily FB is totally secure and no one has ever created a false user account to fool other FB users... (Catfish, anyone?)).
I haven't looked at the site (like others, not really into FB and hate using it to login to anything since that will probably end up 'shared' on FB as if I'm promoting it - I know, I know, other login options will be added soon)

Actually, despite the inherent cynicism any new venture seems to attract,  the idea of Sellshed sounds really good, and anything that gives Trademe some decent competition must be congratulated. I hope it goes gangbusters.

Got an update today:

One-Third of Kiwis Use Smartphones for Christmas Shopping - New Survey
New Zealanders are embracing new technology to help avoid queues and find goods more easily, with new research revealing that many plan to use their smartphones to help with Christmas shopping this year.

The research, commissioned by new Kiwi shopping site and app SellShed, investigated people’s attitudes to gifts and Christmas shopping in the lead-up to the festive season.

It found that with an abundance of online shops and delivery services now available at the touch of a button, one in three Kiwis (35%) now intend to use their smartphone to find presents for friends and family, avoiding Christmas queues in favour of convenience.

And that extra technological help means the majority are feeling confident about getting presents under the tree early. Three-quarters (75%) of respondents believe they will have all their Christmas shopping done in time for Christmas Eve, avoiding the typically frantic last day of purchasing in stores and malls across the country.

SellShed CEO Peter Howell says the company has seen a steady increase in use of their mobile shopping platform as Christmas approaches.

“People are enjoying the convenience of shopping online or on a smartphone app, and avoiding the crowds and long waits that are often associated with the traditional Christmas shopping period,” he says.

The survey also discovered shoppers will be turning to online for help after Christmas too, with  a booming trade in unwanted presents set to start after Christmas Day.

It found that 56% of Kiwis would think about putting a Christmas present up for sale if it was valuable but not what they wanted.

However, there is a generational divide, with those aged 25 to 34 years old more open to the idea of getting a cash payment for their unwanted loot than any other age group (67%).

Over-65 year olds are the least likely to turn to the internet to sell their gifts after Christmas Day (41%).

Signed up to check it out. :)

Definitely need a higher density desktop interface option.

Good to know the number of local listings found,
but would be better to know the number of currently displayed listings,
when you start filtering it down.

Will listings auto expire with no activity or login from the owner?

Otherwise it has potential :)
